I feel so unwelcome.
    #856544 - 09/01/02 10:53 AM (19 years, 22 days ago)

Why does everyone get so upset when newbies ask newby questions? I know there is an FAQ section which is very helpful. I read it all before my first post. Not all questions are answered there, however, and some questions need to be clarified with a personal response with personal experience and opinions. (IMO)

Why does it bother you to see a question that is asked often? You don't need to respond. The newbies usually even warn you that there is a newbie question in his/her post. So you don't even need to click on it! If it bothers you then don't look at the newbie post.

I feel like this forum is full of snobs that treat everyone like idiots and call them lazy until they are in the "club." It is sad because shrooms are supposed to be here for those that are empathetic and understanding and kind towards other people. But instead it is very hostile here and I feel very unwelcome.

I believe you state a valid point, although it is very frustrating to recieve pm's and to see a bunch of posts that have answers readily available. look at it this way. if the people are too lazy to look at thee faq, y should we spend our time to answer the lazy person's question. sometimes good people make a bitchy response cuz they are having a bad day. don't worry about it. I have been around for like 4-5 months and people make dick comments to me. either dont reply or make a civil remark. hope this helps and let me say WELCOME TO THE GREATEST SITE EVER!!!!

because they are asked over and over an over .......they just get tired af answering them, especially when the answer is right there, waiting to be read they want to help us newbies as much as possible, so instead of repeating the answers ovewr and over and over..... they simply refer you to the fact when they see your question is one that has been covered. this place is filled with warm, happy shroom thoughts, and great people with very knowledgable advice.... so if they say, read the faq...... maybe you should.....lol, i been there done that, had everyone get upset when i asked .....how long? but i understand now, after seeing the same questions over and over how annoying it can get. i love this place and all the people here.......(well most of them, there are some idiots out there)

I think a large part of this hobbie is in the studying and finding new info. Since  the cultivation forum is filled with almost everything a newbie could dream of, asking more experienced cultivators simple questions is almost like asking them to shoulder your new hobbie so you can just "get fucked up" off their rewards.
Just my thoughts in the matter

A few hours of searching for one question, is out of the question. You shouldn't have to search for a few hours to find a answer to a simple question.

Yes, repetitive questions are annoying.. but I agree with you that tact should be set inplace when responding no matter what.

I think it is ironic that alot of the people that take the time to read and respond to a large portion of the posts in a negative tone, acting like the shroomery is there house are quite pathetic.. because clearly they have no social life and are nothing but dirty post whores.

Now there are also quite a few people who are the exact opposite manner.. these are the people who have my respect.

I agree. Regulars at large/busy forums always seem to get cocky and start passionately telling off peple who ask previously answered questions. Just go to the mycopia.net forums. The people there are always happy to answer your questions.

I just think you shouldn't be rude. If a newbie question that happens to be in the FAQ is posted- don't click on it if it bothers you - you don't have to read it. But, if you absolutely have to open the thread and get upset about it, then don't be rude just post the faq link.

Good advice. That?s what I mostly do.
But if the same newbie posts another 3 questions that are in the FAQ afterwards, then I get a bit uncomfortable too...

I don't understand why people get so upset either. Its not even when you ask questions that are asked frequently but when you make mistakes peeps here are real hostile about it. I've never been in such a rude forum as this. I find in most forums if someone asks a questions that frustrates someone else they'll just ignore the question.. Simple enough. But people here feel the need to make newbies feel like crap, its not like any of us weren't once newbies so I see no reason in being rude to someone who is in the same boat as I was once in, and in some cases still am in. I think that the people who get mostly pissed off are the people who spend thay're entire lives in this forum, and I say to them move on to advanced cultivation. Obviously you are way above us ignorant newbies. So let us have this forum to ask our stupid questions that have been asked a million times so we will no longer bother you oh great ones, with your vast knowledge to which you are un-willing to share. You are all far superior.

Me and others before and along spent much time compiling the FAQ and organizing other parts of the site to make good information available in easy form.
And then some ignorant newb registers and the first thing he does is to go straight to the forums and posts a stupid queestion(yeah, right, stupid) instead of doing at least 5 minutes of research.

Belive me, so much ignorance would upset you too.

I've only been lurking on this board for about four months, and I'm already getting irritated with people asking "is this white, stringy stuff on  my cakes good?" I can only imagine how someone like Anno, who's likely been dealing with it for years, must feel. Yet most of the experts here are still very civil about it. In fact, I think I've noticed more hostility from the people told to read the faq, then the people telling. And, in truth, thats the best answer that could be given. The experts aren't here to hold our hands through the entire process. They're here to help us learn all we can. I honestly don't think people who can't find their own answers through research, work, and trial should be growing mushrooms, because these are the people in whose hands psychoactives are dangerous.
.. That was a little preachier than I meant to be  :smirk:

Im a newbe here too, before I decided to join the site I looked through every FAQ and all the TEKs.  I also did a few searches on the site and read about a hundred posts.  I think it only polite to be well informed before becoming involved.  Just like in school, it wouldnt be polite to show up in the middle of a class thats been going for two semesters and ask questions that were taught in the first few weeks.  Become informed by reading.  I have seldom found a question of mine that hasnt allready been asked two or three or a hundred times.  Also, I have had wonderful response to every one of my posts (as long as I make them detailed and have read up of the FAQ!)  Welcome to a very close knit and supportive community that is all about sharing information about one of the funnest hobbies around.  Please stick around a while and youll see what I mean.

Thats really great that you guys did that. I think everyone uses the faq all the time, but some people don't and its not a big deal. If you think it is a big deal don't reply. Problem solved. I think that if someone had a question and no one replyed they would start searching the shroomery themselves. Its just not worth getting upset over. When people do get upset, you just make the shroomery seem like a hostile environment, and not a place to feel comfortable in. I mean you can't even ask a silly quetsion without someone jumping down your throat.
Its like kids, when kids make mistakes they don't learn from being yelled at by their parents, they just grow to resent their parents and rebel against them...If you have a parent who nurtures your development and expects you to make mistakes you feel more comfortable listening to they're advice.

I know how you feel. It seems like people asume the worst when you ask a question, prolly because of all the newbies that asked before us .I don't really post here much for this reason.I would rather screw up 10,000,000 times then have someone treat me like shit-so I say just don't worry about screwing up it's gonna happen-Don't be affraid to pm someone and ask a Q they are very helpfull...esp admins here!!!

btw sometimes the search shows up empty but if you try it a few times posts will show up...has happened to me many times and after I post I will find the awnser

Because of the VARIABLES.

Meaning everybody has a differing place, temp, space available & eqt, to work with, differing standards of what they consider clean,  differing strains & some do cakes of all sorts & content - many differing ways, others do spawn of all sorts to substrates of all kinds, many differing ways.

There are no absolute answers -- that work for evrybody.

Then, there are questions that are NOT well stated. Meaning, whoever asks, doesn't give enough specific info in the question, so that anybody can answer, without asking  more questions to clarify -- the question - first asked.

The Racccon lurked at many sites, read posts, faq's & tek's until his beady little eyes hurt, day after day. The Raccoon settled in here, because -- HERE - is where he found the info, help & all else he needed -- for what he wanted to do.

Certainly, he got flamed a few times -- for asking -- questions -- that did not contain enough facts -- someone knowledgable -- could easily answer. Other times he felt stupid -- because an answer to his question -- was right before his eyes. He just didnt SEE it.

Anno, for one ... has a great expertice at posting answers -- as in "go here" -- "read this"............. !

In other words -- someone knowledgable simply pointed.

Buckle up & apply yourself. Work at it. This is the real deal. Live, learn, culitivate & prosper.

SixTango

Yea, it'd be nice to think that, and sometimes, they do (smart ones anyway) Seems like what happens most of the time, is people get pissed off and come back flaming and swearing at everyone, talkin shit to others cause they didnt get their meal handed to them.
