Don't go opening your battery just yet.  First, even if you could open it, if you have a problem with the plates of your Optima battery, no amount of other batteries is going to help you.  Optima uses a completely different type of plate that's incompatible with other batteries.  Not only that, but I highly doubt you could use a plate from one manufacturer with another regardless, but especially not an Optima.

Depending on why the batteries have failed, it is possible to repair many depending on the reason for failure.  Don't start yelling at me just yet people!  The reason most lead-acid batteries fail is due to hard layer of lead sulfate crystals forming on the plate.  There are charging techniques that can reverse this, but you'll probably pay more for the equipment to do it than you would a new battery.

After that, their are methods of replacing the electrolyte solution with just distilled water, applying the charging techniques again and replacing the electrolyte solution.  Though with the Optima again, this will probably be impossible as they use a proprietary solution to go along with their proprietary plates.  These aren't normally used on a sealed battery though.

Since you seem intent on trying it, I would first get it analyzed to see what the problem is.  If it's an internal fault, you can pretty much forget it.  If it is sulfated, and you want to spend the money or have access to the equipment for the specialized charging procedure, try that.  Beyond that, I would really take everyones advise and not pursue this further.  WHATEVER YOU DO THOUGH, DO YOUR RESEARCH!  CROSS-CHECK SOURCES, CONSULT OTHERS SKILLED IN THE PRACTICE AND BE CAREFUL!

I would recommend you not even try the charging techniques.  Doing it improperly is great way to have one explode.  The cost of supplies, labor, and danger involved is just not worth it.

take it to the auto store, sometimes they can put in a slow charge, or put in a fast charge, drain it, then slow charge, and revive it...it worked on the battery in my nissan maxima twice before I had to replace it.

peace
