Installing Mac OS X 10.5 without a disk

What would be the best way to go about installing Mac OS 10.5 on my mini mac without a DVD? I don't have a dual layer burner, which I assume you'll need to make a copy.
I have a Powerbook with Tiger on it which I want to upgrade as well. Let's say I get an ISO image of the dvd and put it on my laptop. I could then link them with a firewire by pushing in a specific key on my laptop to make it show up as a mounted drive on my mini mac. It's been a long time since I did this kinda work and would appreciate some direction.
Once I linked them via firewire, how would I install the image? These are just thoughts and if there is a better way let me know.
Thanks for the help.

Do you have an iPod that is at least 8GB? If so, you can install the ISO to the ipod, then boot from it to install. Works like a charm.

My sister has a 10g Ipod nano video I could use. How exactly would that work. After I install the OS to the iPod and boot to it, would I then just install to the local HD from the iPod installation. I did a similar procedure years ago when I worked for a school with an all Mac environment but my memory is a bit foggy, so sorry if this sounds like a stupid question.
Using an iPod definitely sounds better than using my laptop.
Thanks for the help.

I've only done it with a firewire iPod, but it should work with USB as well (only on Intel based macs with USB2 ports).
Open disk utility and click on the iPod. Click on the restore tab. Drag the ISO into source, drag the iPod into destination, click restore. This should completely delete the iPod turning it into a leopard boot device. Reboot the laptop and hold the option button down after the apple tone. You should see a list of boot devices, including the leopard/iPod. Select it, and boot to install.
(You shouldn't have to do anything special with the iPod to get it to show up in disk utility. If you do, it would be enabling filesystem support (or something close to that) in iTunes with the iPod attached. You might also have to eject it from iTunes before it shows up as a disk.)
Once done, load itunes and restore the iPod. This will reload the iPod software and turn it back into an iPod that can be synced with itunes.
