It would probably work but you'd be more susceptible to contamination imo.
You also would not be able to shake the jar which drastically speeds up colonization.
Don't waste vermiculite the post office gives tyvek away.

first off I'm trying to create a whole bunch of colonized wbs for some outdoor patches, and then im going to use a bit for a manure monotub indoors
I live in Canada and I'm not sure I can get tyvek from the post office, is there any stores that sell tyvek in small amounts, or something else I could use?
I have access to polyfill, but I'm not sure how I'd go about using it with my tupperware containers

Use breathable tape that's what I use, cheap and readily available.
A little hard to get off so use some nail polish remover.

Using seed as a main outdoor spawn is just begging to get eaten up by pests.
but also i find it hels to shake the wbs jars when they are still 'hot' to distribute the moisture and this would destroy the verm layer.
also the wbs expands after being pressure cooked.
*edit* painting suits are good sources of tyvek

Without shaking (which you can't do using a verm layer), your colonization time will be substantial. I doubt the verm will even stay in place anyway after the expansion/contraction of the WBS during the heating and cooling process. Micropore tape is about 3 bucks man.

Inside the U.S., he's in canada. RR sells tyvek suits on his site, and any home depot/lowes will have tons of tyvek products that you can buy.

In addition, you need to use jars, not tupperware. Search tyvek, and you'll find it from numerous sources such as www.intothewind.com who sells heavy duty kite tyvek. RR
