odd shroom growth - noob question
    #8547021 - 06/21/08 10:14 AM (15 years, 8 months ago)

Hello everyone. This is my first time, and there seems to be problems at fruiting stage. After two weeks of no pins, they started coming out, but poorly. Some cakes had one fruit really big, but the rest of them nothing, and when they did began to fruit, the shrooms looked really strange. The caps are looking to the cakes, so they look like they were turned to them selves, you know? The direction of there growth is to the cake, instead of growing from the cake. Others seem to be nothing BUT cap. And almost 80 percent of them are growing this way. Don´t know if I can explain it properly.
Anyways, from what i´ve read, my explanation so far is that, because of the way the light got to them in the terrarium (not from above, but from the sides), they began to develop this odd growth. So I changed there position to see what happens, now they get light from above. I would like to know what someone with more experience and knowledge thinks about all this. Thanks

True, the above, FAE as much as you possibly can fit in. Also, might just be the particular strain, or early sign of contamination if they are looking REALLY weird. Might be worth a smell.

FAE is your friend.

Thans for all your replys. So, if that is the problem, is there any solution? What should I do with those shrooms, just let them be?
The strain is tazmanian, and I dont think there´s contamination because they smell right and the cakes are white. I´ve been fanning the terrarium like 5 times a day, and keeping it moist also. Here are some pics, hope they help. Thanks

Light from the side is fine. It will reflect all over the place once it hits the terrarium.

To upload pictures, click the link that says 'pics' in the top left, just below where it says Welcome nico8, and then follow the links to upload.  Make sure to reduce them first if they're very large.

Thanks RR, now I can show mi pics. If there to blurry let me know.
In the first one, you can see how the cap is facing the cake.

The second pic shows how some of them seems to be nothing but caps, and others are growing towards the perlite, instead of going up.

What can I do with this? This is the first flush, should I let them grow? Another thing is that they are growing really slow. Thanks for any reply.

Does anyone have any suggestion, cuz I really don´t know what to do about these cakes. I´d really appreciate any help, God knows them shrooms would also.
