Ive just got into the hobby and have a contam question.

I know what hair mold looks like from a previous jar.
However, my very first dunk/roll BRF jar is a 1/2 qt rolled in dry verm.

I feel really stupid asking but really dont know if its normal. The myc I think is growing through the casing like it should but its about a little less than 1/4" of buff, it been like this for a while and is patching but wont get any longer. I dunked on the 18th, rolled and placed into the FC the 19th. This is what it looks like.

I have no idea how long it takes to pin after a 24hr dunk and then a roll. Its been 4 days but Im very willing to be patient but want to make sure all is fine. Thanks for all those who throw in their thoughts I greatly appreciate the time taken and the answers needed.

how long on average does pinning start? Its been almost 5 days. Temps ranging 75-84F in indirect to partial sunlight.

start of pinning IME can depend on how long you left the fully colonized cake sit before birthing it. That looks like it should start showing pins in the next 2-3 days.

Actually, it looks like it hasn't detected fruiting conditions.  It's still colonizing.  Seems like you have perfect humidity, but probably not enough Fresh Air Exchange.  You have an incredible cake going there buddy!  Give it the right conditions and you will be in heaven here soon.

wow, I thought it looked like it might put out lots of mushies but I guess I can feel even more confident :smile: Thanks.

I try to air it when I can... Maybe 1-4 times a day. It has sunlight I can see the cakes fine during the daytime.

Temps around 23C-27C sry my reader is messed up and Celsius is only working :frown:
Has some direct sunlight for some of the day and indirect the rest. The reader says RH at 99% and low of 90% for each 24hr cycle.

My most important question is this. I have a lot of mushrooms that have spawned from a jar with heavy amounts of what i believe is web or hair mold. It it all white and got about 1.5" long and then got black spots on the tips of each few hairs then it has started to die off and the myc is taking back control. The cake I'm mentioning I fruited at 75-85% completion. It is in a completely different single cake FC than the one above and has given me almost 30 grams wet so far with about 6 more nice sized mushies left to pick. I'm worried that these mushies might now be poisonous to ingest. None of the mushies harvested had any growth on them sept myc which was on the base and light. The mold was on the opposite side and never touched the ones I've picked, they have all looked fine, bruise fine and nice and firm. What should I do? I really want to trip this weekend with my best bud but don't want to endanger either of us. I can get photos of whats left of the mold for verification if needed. I have no know allergies. The are in the drying process some are 95% cracker dry. Not sure if drying will get rid of any toxins.

Cuz hell it gave me an 11.7g mushy

I don't think thsi was a smart idea but I tore open the large mushy to see the insides. Does this look normal?
The inside of the drying chamber smell pretty iffy. But when smelling the mushroom itself smelt like a mushroom. I thought about taking a bite but well, not sure if its harmful. After looking at cobweb mold photos I know 100%that's what ive got but after fanning it often it has gone away and myc growth has blown up.

Well I at a small .5" from the same batch, tasted fine, smelt fine. No salty tatse, or other stuff I've been reading. Just tastes like shrooms. Last time I had some was oh, 3 years or more ago still remember the taste and smell, mmm mmm mmm I love the taste or fresh mushies.

I figure now that it is cobweb, which i read is harmless. I feel pretty safe to eat these. Plus I notice a sweet smell in the FC this cake was in. But my friend said it smelt like foot so I don't know. All good either way. I will have other harvest(s) soon anyhow if these are deemed unsafe.

Does everything sound, look, and seem safe? About the mushies from the cobweb jar? I went and picked all of the 1st flush last night. After fanning that single jar FC often the cobweb mold has vanished and the myc is taking back the sub.

Here is my FC at 2PM aka now, is this to much light? I rarely ever turn the UVB bulb on. But this FC gets light for ~12+ hrs a day. The heat inside is always the same consistent flux. I think its a 106qt tub. Holes and placement are just like Roadkills in Let's Grow Mushrooms.

Well, I broke open the cake in a zip lock and it was perfect inside. No discoloration, nothing. It had some cobweb on the bottom where it was stuck to to the jar lid. Is there a way to kill the cob while its broken up in the bag? Then I can attempt a casing? in a Tupperware...

I'm just a n00b but i would ditch any contam cakes, they are cheap as chips to make.

also, lol @ foot smell
