covering sides after side pinning has begun
    #8548767 - 06/21/08 08:49 PM (16 years, 6 months ago)

so i got a couple little grows in my pmp's just to use up some leftover bulk substrate after doing my mono's.  they're just in little clear 6 qrt tubs.  well they're starting to knot like mad right now and creating little pins and i was just wondering what you guys think.  if it's to late to cover the sides with something to prevent side pinning or should i just fruit it as is?

Light actually has little to do with side pinning.  Besides, the light will reflect down along the clear tray anyway.  I'd fruit as is, or dump out of the tray and fruit as a substrate block.  You'll have five sides to fruit from then, six if you put it up on a screen.

Side pinning is not entirely dependant on light. So you could cover it if you want...

Usually the sides of the tray have better conditions for the pins to form...

Humidity, temperature, whether the mycelial network is 'ready' to pin, etc...

Full colonization and fresh air are the two biggest pinning triggers, with light and near saturation humidity next in line.

I have this same issue: pic

Is it better to take out of tupperware and place in FC on sheet of foil or just let flush as is?
