baby cacti ?
    #854468 - 08/31/02 07:40 AM (16 years, 26 days ago)

It seems to me, since San Pedro, and Peruvian Torch seeds seem to be so cheap, and seem to grow relatively fast, that one could plant 100 seeds, and harvest X number of baby cacti within a few months, and have a considerable amount of cactus.

Sure, yoiu can keep some of the better ones to grow out for years if you want, but where is the flaw in this plan? 100 three month old cacti, would be as good as a few 10 inch cuttings, would it not?

From what I understand San Pedro grows about 12" a year.

Now PC and Murple can correct me if I'm wrong.

12" in a year that will be for a mature cacti not seedlings. I would be happy with 4" in their first year.

In 3 months they would still be tiny, you would need more than 100, but you could be onto something, seeds are a lot cheaper than cuttings or rooted plants (100 for about 2$ if you know where to look.

How many cuttings can you get from one plant?

For example, a 10" plant.

I just made 6 cuttings from 12" of San Pedro.....about 3 weeks ago.

They are 2" each and I turn them sideways and plant them half way in catus soil... the pups start off them in a few weeks.

Do these pups grow faster than seedlings?
