In the last few years, iv noticed that the first shrooms of the season are as strong as poison.. However, for those who do a lot of munching - have you noticed how different the tripping is later in the season?
It appears to me as if the mushroom grows in intelligence and accuracy as easch patch keeps fruiting.
Does this make sense? As if, while the mush network keeps to expanding.. it builds its abilty to 'teach' as it grows on?
Any ideas ppl? Gimme the weird and wonderful stuff:)
p.s Im asking, cos I ate .7g of subaeruginosa last night that knocked me to the couch within 10minutes- comparable to 4-5 g several weeks back.
OH yeah, another thing- 0.7 was made of about 6-7 largish caps. People say caps/stems= same shit. This was my most distinctly uniqe trip with fantastic visuals EVER. I cant help but think 'just caps' had something to do with it..

Actually, no, that doesn't make any sense at all. Mushrooms aren't conscious beings, I don't understand why you personified them.
As mushrooms grow they decompose whatever they are growing on. As more gets decomposed, there are less nutrients available and therefore less nutrients to synthesize active compounds.
If there ARE enough nutrients, environmental factors could effect the alkaloids produced. Say, for example, some of the enzymes that are involved in the synthesis of psilocybin work better at a higher temperature, then they would theoretically produce more psilocybin as temps got close to their optimal range. pH could also effect this.
Biologically, a fairly complex question. There are just so many factors to consider.

i heard i think stamet or someone saying how the myceliem network looks very similar to nurons in the brain or something along thow lines.
and in a way...since mushrooms are offspring or the spores, they are spreading knowledge...gained from the nutrients around them

I found shrooms in December and January before not many but I swear the cold temperature or something makes em more potent. Could just be in my head though.

its in your head, all of youz guys should know The temp outside will never raise the potency percentage of a active mushroom
If anything I'd like to think the sun/heat will degrade the active chemicals The cold weather may preserve it but I highly doubt the mushrooms themselves gain potency this way matter of fact I believe this to be fact
..tho' please do munch away by all means

From this great article:
"Hyphal growth need not be random, since fungi respond to chemical signals. For example the hyphae of various parasitic or mycorrhizal species respond to chemicals that leak out from the tips of plant roots."
So at the least, a mycelium network can demonstrate taxis, an innate behavioural response by an organism to a directional stimulus. A network may make "smart" decisions on where to branch out in a small square of soil. Otherwise, over the long term, outward growth is fairly predictable.

hmm interesting, see there is another thought to all this, purhaps they are similar to trees in that things rise and fall inside them due to temp. like with maple tree's the sugar will rise and fall.

Lots of scientific answers guys. Cheers.
But surely y'all munch the goodeness? Like, 'know someone who has' or whatever?
fuck yeah they respond to physical conditions. Fuck yeah their mycelial networks span not only continents, but entire GALAXIES.
Y'all being sarcastic with me or what?
