From a racquetball website:
Rhonda Rajsich was walking near her apartment in Hermosa beach Saturday night when she was approached by two men. The two men attacked her, brutally beating her unconscious. She is in the hospital and will be there indefinitely. She will be undergoing operations to reconstruct the left side of her face. Her eye is swollen shut but tests show that her vision will be OK.
Please remember Rhonda in your prayers.
What followed was 5 pages of people saying they would pray for her.
Not one to leave well enough alone, I wrote:
"I empathize with her and will be sending a contribution to her medical relief fund as a rational action, but will not pray to some imaginary being. Long-distance prayer has been repeatedly tested and has demonstrated no efficacy in physical recovery."
Can you say, "BLASTED!"? Unsurprisingly, I got lots of hate mail from 'loving, compassionate Christians' despite my financial contribution.

Could be a wounded male ego problem, but from a more extensive report it sounded like a couple of drunk thugs. There was no apparent motive.
Instead of praying after the fact, I would like us all to form a big circle. Grasp hands everyone and bow your head.

I think it's awesome you contributed to her medical fund. Maybe your message will provoke the others into contributing financially as well. Then there will have been a positive response to your posting after all.

It wasn't much. I donated what I make in an hour lesson, but if thousands do the same, she should be covered.

I haven't played racquetball for a long time, but I have never seen a racquet strung in a ray pattern like that....

I always find it funny when someone prays for their omnipotent god to heal someone's injuries when it's far more efficient to ask their omnipotent god to change the past such that the injury never happened in the first place.
Along the same lines, why is it that people pray to their omnipotent god to help an amputee reconstruct their life around the amputation, but they never even bother praying for the amputated limb to grow back?

because that would make God infallible.
if he had the foresight to remove a limb or injure someone, it was for a reason (his will).
christians believe that everything bad that happens to them is either the devil, or god testing them so they become stronger.
i dont get it either, but that is pretty much what you would get if you asked Kent Hovind.

What belief system did I espouse? Intercessionary prayer doesn't work.
