I knew Kanye wouldn't be able to handle Bonnaroo!

this makes me so happy!

Kanye Booed at Bonnaroo

06/16/2008 5:00 AM, E! Online
Josh Grossberg

The Bonnaroo boobirds were out in full force for Kanye West this weekend.

The Grammy winner walked onto the festival stage nearly two hours past his scheduled 2:45 a.m. performance time Sunday morning and was greated by bleary-eyed fans' chorus of boos and chants of "Kanye sucks."

West was originally set to kick things off at 8:15 p.m., but because he wanted to make the most of his Glow-in-the-Dark Tour's lighting show, the hip-hopster's camp asked to push back the gig to 2:45 a.m. following Pearl Jam's show.

However, the Seattle grunge rockers' gig lasted an hour longer than planned, with Eddie Vedder and bandmates not wrapping until 1:15 a.m. Then there was an extended break while Pearl Jam's roadies disassembled the band's stage and West's crew set up his own elaborate backdrop, a glow-in-the-dark spaceship along with undulating black platform and raised video screen.
Organizers posted a message via Jumbotron that the "Can't Tell Me Nothing" rapper wouldn't be taking the stage until 3:15 a.m., then 3:30. When 4:15 a.m. rolled around and still no West, the antsy crowd began hurling glow sticks at the stage and screaming anti-West sentiments. Bonnaroo officials didn't help the matter, not informing festivalgoers why the changeover was taking so long.

West finally made his entrace at 4:30 a.m., but by then, many exhausted attendees had had enough and returned to their tents.

Apparently, they didn't miss too much.

Judging by online reviews, West's performance didn't stand out from the 150 acts performing at the four-day musical campout. In fact, it was a yawner.

"He was two hours late, cut his show short, didn't once acknowlegde the crowd that waited two hours on an already late show, not even a wave goodbye...I'm no longer a Kanye fan, huge disappointment," one fan wrote at the music blog Stereogum.com.

"It's not the stage hands' fault; that stage was set up for well over an hour before Kanye decided to grace us with his presence," wrote another attendee on VillageVoice.com. "The next time he holds that finger up and proclaims himself as #1, I hope someone tells him what he can do with that finger."

Per festival reports, West failed to even acknowledge his tardiness.

The bad vibes carried over to Sunday's daytime slate, when during his set pedal-steel guitar virtuoso Robert Randolph groused about West's behavior, prompting fans to reprise the "Kanye sucks" chant.

There was no immediate comment from the West camp.

yeah what a pompous ass,  first he whines about his timeslot and get a new one, then he gets out played by Pearl Jam who are true Music legends and not just self promoted legends like kanye.  Then he is two hours late for his time slot, has a sub par performance and ends his set early, thanking nobody for showing up.  See that is the true test for s musician.  He couldnt stand up to anyone who has real taste in music.  He may sell millions of copies of Gold digger to white suburban high school kids, but to a music contisour he is worthless.

They probably still would have booed him if he showed up on time.  Who the hell wants to hear some guy rapping over beats  being played from a CD player backstage.  People go to concerts to hear actual musicians.  If you want to hear a record just buy the damn record.  But don't play a record loud and call it a concert.

I could.  I play in a reggae band that would probly please a lot more people than kanye allegedly did.

I'm not saying the man isn't talented. He's probably one of the best things to happen to mainstream hip hop in a long time.  But I just don't think the music lends itself to live performance.  The Roots, now thats a real band.

 Reggae? Unless you're touring with Toots and the Maytals chances are your band only provides massive yawns. I understand people at Bonnaroo not digging Kanye, but come on, just because it isn't your cup of tea doesn't mean it isn't good.

Plus, if your band is so good, why weren't you playing at Bonnaroo in a late slot?

Real hip hop artists come out with a band or a DJ who scratches and rocks the beats on vinyl, not just playing prerecorded beats off of a cd player or computer, that shit is wack.  Kanye is complete garbage, he is the single most over rated artist of the last 5 years.  (possibly decade)

Don't want to stereotype, but the only people I personally know who like Kanye are new jacks who just got into hip hop in the last several years.

I can understand your sentiments, but Kanye is up there putting on a show. No different than Daft Punk. Music is about entertainment sometimes folks, and my understanding is Kanye's show is usually pretty entertaining.

i think the way that works is you suckle at the cock of an already established hip hop artist and then when they help you get set up you leech of their fanbase.

I hear what you're saying, jewunit, but the backstreet boys put on an entertaining show for their fans too, that doesn't mean they were groundbreaking talented singers though, does it?  It just means they were a popular selling group, mainly due to MTV & mainstream radio promotion, not actual talent, same as Kanye.

Doesn't mean they were worthless pieces of shit either, does it?
Just because you're not up there playing instruments doesn't mean you're not good.
To be honest, in my mind, if you're not doing any improv (good improv) then you're really doing nothing different than sitting up there spinning anyway. If you're making tons of money touring the globe, strumming away at your guitar shouldn't be anymore challenging than producing and spinning records, then rapping over them while working the crowd.

As far as I'm concerned, he deserves to be shot for ruining an awesome daft punk song. Everything after that is irrelevant to me. I dont know why he would even bother trying to play at bonnaroo, he's a producer. He knows where his talents lie, sure dumb ass suburban white fans may go to his other shows, but they'll go see anyone as long as it will make them look good when they tell other people. Bonnaroo is about live music........ok and drugs, but mostly about live music. WTF was he thinking?

Well to each his own. Hip hop provides me with massive yawns, reggae does the same for you. This is an assumption, but I would think that most of the people at Bonnaroo are much more into reggae than hip hop.  I just think Bonnaroo is pretty far off from Kanye's target demographic.

And hey just because my band isn't a national touring act doesn't mean we're not good.  There are loads of incredibly talented acts that just play locally.  What are the chances of landing a slot at Bonnaroo for a band that isn't already established as a national touring act.

Just don't buy any of his albums and then you don't have to worry about it.
The fact of the matter is the guy makes his own shit. If you don't like it, that's cool. People around here know I am the first person to understand the idea of subjectivity. I just don't see how so many people get off saying stuff they like is bad.
I don't like Pearl Jam or Nirvana that much, and I think if any genre of music can be called bad musically it's grunge, but I'm still not gonna do it. I mean it's okay, but I was gonna leave Lollapalooza early last year before Pearl Jam to beat traffic if I wasn't there with a fan. Does it mean they're bad? No. Just means I don't like 'em.

He also cut short an epic Phil Lesh late show, apparently Phil announced to the crowd that he was asked to cut his show short so Kanye could play!  he could have play and hour or two more but since cry baby Kayne change his set time to have Bonnaroo first ever Main stage late show Phile had to end a epic lateshow.  He really dropped the ball on this one and I cant wait to hear his response to all this.  He is cheesy and fake and has no showmanship.  Epic Fail

What the fuck?  Phil lesh ended early to accommodate Kanye West?  Thats just unacceptable.  What a way to ruin a great night.

When censorship is permitted, everyone is the victim.

Which is worse a little off color humor, or not even having the right to object to it since some else dictates what you may see.

This is a pretty funny comic, to bad I wont let you see the punchline.

He is one of the top 3 reasons why there was no debate for me to not attend Roo this year. I knew it wouldn't end well. It was the wrong arena for him to "perform" in.

I find reggae much more entertaining than shitty rap.

I also forgot an artists fame is indicative of how "good" they are.

I dont see how the schenck case applies. Although personally I disagree with even that restriction.

I used to like Kanye when he was in the shadows just making beats and music FOR the music and honestly I liked his first CD...after that his ego started to get to him and now hes just sickening, he barely makes his own music, the majority of it is sampled from earlier songs.

As I said, I disagree with the schenck case, although I fail to see what it has to do with harmless jokes.

Schenck Vs. The U.S. pertains to speech that in and of itself creates a direct threat. I happen to disagree, and believe censorship is a far greater threat than anything anyone could possibly say. Except maybe acrosst, anyone uttering that vile word should be shot on site.

if this were OTD no one would care about racial slurs and the
sort, but this is the pub, check out the rules it even mentions
something about 'no racism' up in there somewhere, why anyone
would want a friendly atmosphere for having a good time and
chatting it up with friends is beyond me
