outdoor cultivation
    #852911 -

first i have followed moes outdoor grow tek accept for the cake part.
i am going to have to use spores instead of a cake.
also ilive in ohio so it will only have about 2 more months before winter comes
my question is will the spores work instead of using a cake, and also will they have enough time to fruit before winter
and last next spring will the mycellium still be there or will i have to start over?

no spores wont do the trick. you need to innoc either a cake or some seed

I think spores wouldnt work too well because when innoculating jars, you ar eusing such a rich substrate. I dont think liquid mycelium would be plentiful enough to do the trick either. Why not just innoculate a jar or 2, and then do it. It wont take much longer

spores would have trouble germinating on straight straw. Not to mention there are other competitor fungus and organisms. The straw will just compost in the ground. I put out some outdoor a few weeks ago and have seen nothing yet. the mycelium is still alive though. There will be more competitor fungus spores than yours. what makes you think your spores will be the ones that survive and conqure?

I also live in ohio and I tried innoculating a patch of bagged and fresh horse/cow manure using a jar of liquid grown mycelium. Sadly to say, it didn't work. You're better off using a cake. I don't even think the temperatures will get back into the mid 80's again for too many more days. It has been on average mid 70's for highs here, which is fruiting temperature for most cubensis.
My opinion is to wait until next year, or grow indoors.

you've got about a 1 in a few thousand chance, especially at this time in the year. Still possable though. I'm hoping my patch will produce, but i'm not counting on it.

after im done with my indoor, it will be about last day of sept. and the cake is spent, would it be worth it to set it out or is that too late?
and will it survive through the winter?
