Feeling like reverting back to horse and buggy

I was an avid equestrian when I was younger so I have the skills. But anyway, I'm thinking as soon as I get some land and can afford to maintain it, I'm going to get a draft horse and get a carriage and have that be my main mode of transportation. I love horses and needed a reason to get back into them. Well, transportation sounds like as good as a reason as any. I will use cruelty-free methods of direction.
I'm pretty stoked. It'll take me longer to get places, but it'll be more rewarding and I'll be able to carry more stuff rather then just on my bike.

I'd like to do that too. And if oil keeps getting more expensive, it may come to everyone doing that.

The only challenge will be finding places to "park" the horse and buggy...
I think some carriages have a locking mechanism which stops the thing from rolling, should the horse feel like taking a hike. Also draft horses are well-known for being coldbloods - not easily excitable.
I can't wait honestly - maybe we will all have to do this again one day.

I might have to hire a coachman - who knows.

You should just ride a horse. That would be even more fun than a horse and buggy I would think.

Lol could you take your buggy on the freeway? That would be badass, it could be like a chariot.

Moth: Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. It's not very horse and buggy friendly at the present time.

It is, but it can sure make your taint raw if you ride too much.

I could do both; I only need the horse.
Just riding a horse into town might be difficult whenever you want to get a bunch of groceries. A buggy solves that problem nicely - lots of trunk space.
However, when I want to herd yuppies, I'll leave the carriage behind, because I'll need the speed.

I have been known to travel thousands of miles to meet Shroomerites...
Maybe one day I'll ride up in your yard with my coal-black steed and a mushroom-filled carriage.
That would be cool.

my mum has about 20 horses, all purebred arabs, well trained and very very well looked after and loved, all on massive amounts of land.
I used to ride as a kid, but sort of stopped when I was about 13-14 or so, it just got old. I can still ride a horse, and have honestly considered the same thing myself, when things get beyond a joke (which they will) I will revert to an alternative method of transport, and a bike as well.

My horses when I was younger were arabs. Fucking amazing breed. So beautiful. I like their spirits. They all seem to have a flashy attitude.

We had a guy from the UAE come over to look at a horse mum had hand-reared (mother died with after-birth complications, intestines got twisted... sad and messy)
most amazing horse I've ever seen. National champion in endurance riding (cross country), and this arab came over and offered mum $500k for this horse, she declined because she knew he'd be taken over and ridden to death over the deserts (they are callous evil fuckers to their horses) so she sold him for $50k to a QLD trainer who brings him back to tasmania once every couple of years to "see his old friends" (the other horses in the paddock he grew up with)
mum cried uncontrollably when he left.

yea i had to make 3 trips to the grocery store today (since i no longer have an automobile) just to get the bare essentials. it's only like 3 miles away but im guessing every back pack load was at least 20 lbs. that hurts the back after awhile. a horse and buggy would of been very nice in this situation.

you'll need a well trained horse even though yuppies arent much smarter than cows, in herds they can be tricky

Yeah, you can only carry so much stuff in a bike basket.
