a friend of mine who lives in Holland recently tried to use Barley instead of Rye berries from his local organic health food store. he used the same quantities of water to barley as Stamets recommends for Rye but was unable to autoclave for 2 days. during this time the barley sat around his room. when he came back the barley berries had begun to germinate. Little barley sprouts were growing out of the seeds, preparing to make a barley plant i suppose. the question is: is barley a good substrate to use? AND will barley that's tried to germinate affect growth? Any Idears?
