Cooling your Laptop

i got a laptop cooling plate for christmas, and it has already worn out. it has 3 fans, which are very loud (when it worked) and the usb power cord that goes to it is loose inside so the power cord doesn't even make a connection anymore. i can't unscrew it to fix or modify it because they snapped it together in manufacture. it is "gear head" brand.
maybe my laptop was too heavy for it (dell inspiron 9300), but it gets extremely hot - so i need to find a new one, and one that will actually last.
do any of you use a cooling plate for your laptop, or know any good brands or specs to look for?

There's a link to a Zalman cooler, and when I build systems Zalman heatsinks I use a lot.
I ought to upgrade the fan on my 8500 to one of those noctua fans.

I recommend using Notebook Hardware Control or RMClock to undervolt your CPU; besides lowering heat output it will also (modestly) increase your battery life. For example I have a Pentium M Dothan which runs at 0.988V @ 600MHz - 1.340V @ 1.8GHz, but I have it undervolted to 0.700V - 1.052V and it's rock solid even under heavy sustained load. There's a surprising amount of tolerance in modern mid-range CPUs. You could also look into underclocking or undervolting the GPU, which appears to be a Geforce Go 6800 and probably makes plenty of heat of its own.

I use a Lapcool3 by Vantec at the moment. http://www.vantecusa.com/p_lpc401.html
Works alright for now. I used to use a Notepal by Cooler master http://www.coolermaster.com/products/product.php?language=en&act=detail&tbcate=1&id=125
but the fans started to get loud, and when I tried to oil them it turned out they were built with a 'closed' design. I sent Cooler Master an email and never got a response. The cooler was larger and heavier than the lapcool, but it appeared more sturdy (aluminum vs plastic). Looking at CM's website, it looks like i bought one of the first models, so maybe the newer ones work a lot better, I have no idea.
