Grade of vermiculite?
    #851888 - 08/29/02 06:20 PM (21 years, 7 months ago)

Hey everyone,
I am about to whip up a batch of BRF jars. In my last batch I used vermiculite which was in quite small chunks, about 2.5-3mm chunks on average. I ran out of this vermiculite and I happened to get given a bag of some other stuff for free, but this stuff which I have now is in larger chunks about 1cm cubed (1/3 in or so).
Is this grade of verm too big? And if so, is there any way of making it smaller like put it in the blender or something?
Thanks

I guess you could grind it up, I've never tried that. PF recommends medium grade verm.

1 cm is a bit big, yes.
Best would be from 2-5 mm.

You can use a blender, yes.

Coarse vermiculite works great better than fine stuff in my opinion.
It will be just as good or better
there now you don't have to do a search on it

The only vermiculite I was able to get is very fine..1-3mm or so. It seems to work fine tho
