i dont think college is cool at all, but i need to go in order to get my life on track. i live about 20 minutes from a college and went to a party there a few times and the kids partying were the biggest bunch of faggots, acting like immature little homos who didnt know how to have a good time, get shitfaced, and still maintain their composure. those fucking kind of people piss me off and that kind of deterred me away from going but now im realizing that college is a MUST if i want to be successful

Don't let it put you off. The majority of students at more or less any college are bound to be drunk little pricks with no perception of how to socialise normally or how the world works. However, if you get around and make an effort to meet people you can also find really interesting, intelligent people. Students in general, in my experience, are utter gimps, but there's a minority that make it worthwhile socially.

Besides which, it's the studying that's important, so any time people are just too stupid to deal with, spend your time working.

Hint: don't think like this, these are the future gas station attendants/burger flippers living in mommies basement.

I said the same thing about a cousin of mine that majored in math (I was ignorant and thought there was no real opportunities for a math major)

He is now a statician for a pharmaceutical company, he is working for the devil but he is successful, not living with his parents:shrug:

My cousin is very successful owns 3 homes one of which is a 430 acre ranch in Colorado.

I don't think that thought pattern means anything, he is a math wiz.

Yea, your math level is one of the best predictors of how much money you can make in any degree.

I always laugh inside when I hear business majors complain "you dont need calculus in business"  Well, I guess they dont need it because they will probably manage a mcdonalds.  But real business people do.

Take as many gen ed classes as possible! Your first two years it is an utter waste of time and money to try to pick a degree. Take English, History, Math, Science (probably a horticulture class because you're so interested). Always try to take the class that sounds the most interesting to you, not the one that has the widest appeal. Like if you're taking a low-level history class, don't take american history 1600-1861. Take something cool, like 20th century american history or native american history or russian history. The more specific the subject matter, the more passionate and engaged your professor is likely to be.

If you find a subject that you're super passionate about, always keep this in mind:

1. Is this something that I'm really good at?

2. WHAT ARE THE PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS OF A DEGREE IN THIS FIELD???? Most degrees have good career paths, but the important thing is that the practical applications!!!!! Since you most likely won't be going to grad school, you need to find a major that has a good career at the end of it that YOU WILL ENJOY! Talk to the career center to get good ideas, you'd be surprised at the flexibility of a liberal arts degree.

3. If you got your degree in some scientific horticulture program, or an agricultural program, you could either work in the field or be a science teacher! Science teachers get extra pay for their BS degrees in high schools and teaching is very rewarding.

If you truly decide you want to be an ag major, most major universities have ag programs that are easier to get into than their other programs, like engineering or business. This major can be a GREAT bargain, because you can get into a super bomb school if your GPA is high enough.

The last university I was at, The University of Illinois, (www.uiuc.edu) has a great ag program. It's considered one of the best in the country, it's at a great university, and it's relatively easy to gain admission in agriculture.

Good luck with college! Remember, the harder it is to get into a school, the more intelligent and worthwhile the students. Try to get into the very best school you can. It's well worth your while. When you're ready to transfer don't go to a school that is most convenient if at all possible. Consider moving to get to a better university. Your experience will be sooooooo much better.

Take a lot of different courses during your first year or two, but make sure that the courses you do take will not be so spread out that you'll have to spend extra years finishing whatever you end up deciding to do (unless you're completely unsure).

I have ideas about what to study, but they're probably more directly relevant to me than to anyone else.

Definitely go, even if you don't know what you want to be you'll figure it out. I went in as a writing major and wound up a language major.

Check out some opencourseware sites...  MIT and Berkley have some good materials online.  Can at least check out some of the courses with video lectures to see if it would be something you would like to do.
