(Careful driving through mid Tennessee on your way to 'Roo, folks)
Herald-Citizen

COOKEVILLE -- Four tanks filled with laughing gas (nitrous oxide) and a bunch of balloons were among the items confiscated by police here as they worked what some called "Bonnaroo Patrol" this week.
Every year, Putnam's law officers snag some of those passing through here on their way to Coffee County's popular music festival. Usually, the arrests involve drug charges.
On June 11, Cookeville Police Officer James Harris stopped a car for speeding on Highway 111 at Jefferson Avenue. The two men in the car are from Bradford, Conn.
Officer Harris and others became suspicious and made an investigation, which included a search of the vehicle.
Allegedly, they found four tanks of nitrous oxide and "multiple packages of balloons" hidden in a "false compartment" behind the vehicle's back seat, according to warrants on file in the case.
They also allegedly found six plastic bags of marijuana "packaged for resale," the warrants say.
Officer Harris said one of the two men told him "he was delivering these items to Bonnaroo to resell and planned to make at least $1,000."
So it was that Miles Alexander Corcoran, 21, of Tabor Drive, Bradford, and Richard Vincent Szeligowski, 22, of Church Street, Bradford, took a detour on their way to Bonnaroo.
They were booked at the Putnam County jail on charges of "possession of aerosol gases for unlawful purposes" and possession of marijuana for resale.
Total bond for each was set at $20,000, and they have a July 7 court date.
The older model Cadillac Seville the two were traveling in was seized by police, and the Cookeville Fire Department took possession of the four tanks of nitrous oxide.
In other recent cases:
* Putnam Sheriff's Deputy David Blackwell stopped a vehicle on Highway 111 on June 12 because the vehicle had whizzed by too close to other officers on a traffic stop.
He found the occupants of the black Jeep to be brothers B.S. and S.P.S., 20, of Massapequa, N.Y. As he talked to the two, the deputy said he smelled marijuana.
After further investigation, the deputy allegedly found that the two had marijuana, plastic bags, a set of scales, and over $500 in cash, all hidden in the dash of the vehicle.
Deputy Blackwell said he also found in the vehicle two cameras which contained pictures of S.P.S. "holding the bag of marijuana."
S.P.S. was charged with possession of a controlled substance and was booked into the Putnam jail, where his total bond was set at $20,000.
He has a July 7 court date.
* Cookeville Police Officer Chris Melton stopped a vehicle for speeding on Highway 111 on June 12 and after an investigation and a search, allegedly found marijuana and hallucinogenic mushrooms in a backpack.
Charles Joseph French, 24, of Laurel Valley Road, Knoxville, was charged with possession of a controlled substance.
He was booked at the Putnam jail and goes to court July 7.
* On June 10, Officer Jeremy Lintz stopped a vehicle on Willow Avenue for a violation of the vehicle registration law.
During the investigation, the officer allegedly found a plastic bag and a paper bag inside the vehicle's tire tool compartment.
In the bags he allegedly found over a pound of marijuana.
Timothy Chad Lankford, 27, of Shacklett Drive, Nashville, was charged with possession of a controlled substance for resale. He was booked at the Putnam jail, where his bond was set at $15,000.
He goes to court July 7.

I forsee an end to the music festival culture as we know it, unless a fest is underground & not advertised it looks like at this point in American History that the Police are going to shoot fish in a barrel.

These people wouldn't have been arrested if they drove safer and had up to date registrations.

Police will not hesitate to make up a story in order to pull someone over.. This is coming from someone who is awaiting a court date because a cop decided to fabricate a story and pull me over. Then they commenced a search of my vehicle WITHOUT my consent before they even arrested me. But that may be my saving grace.
Sad to see these people going to jail.. Going to miss out on a lot of fun.

do not speed. Always state clearly that you do not consent to a search. Do not take the bait cops feed you, your reason for not consenting to a search is because it is your right to not be searched.. State that it is unamerican to blindly obey authority and that it is your right not to be searched but apon probable cause.

Fuck the Bible Belt. They were probably going 2 over. Good old boy cops suck. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I got pulled over for nothing. Once I got pulled over for my right tire crossing the white line while making a right hand turn... This of course meant that the first thing that was in order was to search us. Fuck the police. At any rate last year there was some Clearchannel station there. It sucks how anything with soul turns to shit when the masses get a hold of it. Its funny how things lose their meaning over time. Like Iggy Pop's Lust for Life being used in a Carnival Cruise commercial. Pop Culture is the opiate of the masses. People are so fucking shallow, self absorbed, and apathetic that it is fucking sickening. It is disturbing how indoctrinated most people are. Its like a simple concept of good and bad as separate from legal or corporate policy definitions, is completely alien. Even though most of the people going to a festival like this aren't that sheeple-ish, increasingly, its more credit card hippies and what have you that frequent that scene. I wish I could have gotten to go to Burning Man in the early days. It seamed like it had more meaning. Now the people that I hear talk about it speak as if its a dieing idea and the main people that I hear talking about going aren't generally the type that I'd surround myself with for that caliber of higher communication and learning.. I think that the rave scene has experienced this too. At one point PLUR meant something and then meth and over-popularisation, now crap. In Atlanta they had this thing called the Music Mid-Town Festival. There were so many great fucking musicians that played there it was unreal. STP, Rat Dog, Gvmt Mule, Big Boy (Outkast), Ben Harper, George Clinton, War, Jethro Tull, I know there were more than that, that I saw even, but I'm tired. Anyways, I didn't like going after a while because even though there was this fantastic music, most of the people were there to get fucked up. Not cop a buzz and listen to music, expand their minds, or even get blitzed but be into it. The music just didn't matter. Then you would see "thug" punk ass white kids trying to be hard and fighting and talking shit and such. I kind of understand the idea of a mystery tradition if in no other light than don't trust the masses with the integrity of anything that is sacred.

Theres a ton of smaller festies out there man, you don't need to goto a mainstream one to have fun. You meat a lot more people at smaller festies, personally though, I go for the music more than anything and would prefer good tunes to a good scene.

At one time these two things weren't mutually exclusive. I hope that is still true in some places.

EXACTLY
If these people want to drive through Tn safely, they need Republican and pro-life bumper stickers, a "high and tight" haircut, and a collared polo shirt. I guarantee they could be speeding and not be profiled.

Just like the LSD seizure the other day. Those guys were pulled over for "suspicion of speeding". Might as well have said they were pulled over for "suspicion of driving"
