the sanctity of music

some music to me seems so special that I don't want to "wear it out" by listening too much. this eventually dulls the subjective magic if you listen too frequently or frivolously. i know i have been guilty of doing this with many pieces. do you save any music for special occasions, rituals, or just every-so-often?

Grateful Dead.
I used to listen to them every day, I started to become bored with them for a while.
So now I only listen to them occasionally so that I never get bored with them again.
Peace.

I know exactly what you mean, but for me lately things have been following a different trend.  After listening to a favourite album/song for a few weeks or so I can get sick of it for another few weeks where it wont have that awe inspiring nature.  Yet recently the magic returns on a permanent level after that brief period, so now days I dont worry about overplaying a song/album anymore :p

I try not to listen to Boards of Canada too often because I used to listen to em a lot and it lost that fresh feeling for a while. But when I'm in the right mood (oh ya know, on mushrooms during a hot sunny day or under the stars), they are incredible!

i do this with most of my music, usually i try to listen to new albums as much as possible and save the good ones for special occasions or moods.
