Learner if you are interested in a coop purchase of cheap bulk agar I am most deffinetly in. I have been looking for an excuss to start using agar and this is the thing to do it. Don't give up so quickly and let me know.

Well we would need 10 people minimum to jump in.. It would be about 27.50 each for about 2 pounds of agar.

As it stands I just put an order in for the lowest commercial site paying more than twice as much for only one pound. (about 43 including shipping for a pound of agar)

No seriously, I decided to order some commercially because of a time issue of needing something to finish some petri work with than wait for a 10 member group to form, figure out what is what, how and when and get their act together.

I would definately be interested in 2 pounds of agar for $27.50. Can you post some details of what company it is that you were going to get this from, and how one might be able to contact them? I've been looking for a good source for buying agar in bulk for a while, so if you have found something please share the info! Also, I'm sure that we could round up 10 people to make a large purchase... I would definately be in, and wouldn't mind organizing it if need be.

I just paid $48.00 for a 2# container of agar at my local organic health food store. The company they ordered it from was called "Now Foods" and any such store can get it in.

At least all of you can find agar locally. I can't start using agar because I can't find it at any stores, and can't get it mailed to me.

My latest agar purchase will tide me over for a few years at least, so for this one I won't be going in, but get together 10 people or so, less if you want to just get 2 kilograms each instead (~4-5 pounds)... and I'll help you out.

Not to discourage those of you who are trying to get your group order going, but several years back, when my friend was using the oss-oeric mmgg, he found agar in an Japanese grocery store, and it was cheap and worked fine.
