Anyone know where to get these or what can be used in the same way as them?

you're talking about rings for placing on top of a casing so you get the casing depth even, right?

I thought it was more of a "eureka!" type HAHA! myself....... no, I don't know where you might get them, I'm guessing nobody would even go to the bother of selling them. Just cut appropriately wide sections from a plastic drainpipe or similar I'd say.

good plan, i'll let this person know.... I'm sure an even casing layer could be applied using just eye as a level ... but even the eye cant attain perfection...

If you had a table saw you could cut a bunch the exact same depth. You know, the kind that the blade moves up and down by hand. pvc would work, but i believe it is prone to shadering and melting.

The easiest thing I could think of would be to cut sections out of a two or one litre pop bottle, depending on size of your casings.

I?d place some pieces of (clean)wood of the correct hight(2cm or so) on the substrate. Who said the rings must be round?

Does perfection make a noticeable difference in pinset? I never heard of depth rings, but it sounds easy enough to use a few pieces of .... well, I guess anything that can be sterilized will work, right? My friend gets some nice flushes, but she is really jealous of some of the pinsets I've seen posted here.

Great. I have plenty of those...I think I'll do a side by side with/without rings and see if my pinset improves. Thanks for the tip!

stamets writes about them, why don't you try him at fungi perfecti?
God doesn't usually case to an even depth, and she's been at this for a little longer than I.
