That's sort of how I see it. But not just religion it's all the cultural bs we buy into and support. Wasting the dawn for me is wasting the opportunity to be awake and feel everything.

I think Morrison is saying something about Christian morals of post-death reward and how it denies life, which is where eternity is in the first place.

I think he was speaking of more than religion but of culture in general. Other than that I agree completely.
Jimmy being a poet had lots of great lines IMO. Kind of like Jesus, he didn't just out with it.
