Hello community! Long time lurker, first post. This is my 2nd grow attempt, the first being a young teenage immature attempt where I picked the fruits before they could barely mature like a greedy impatient fool (lol)
Hindsight is 20/20 isnt it?
Well I just inoculated 12pints of BRF.
6pints equador 6pints mazapatec
All from THE.
I cant wait, im also trying to get into weilii hunting since I am in the appropriate area. I may as well considering there are plenty of others right under my nose finding them and having a blast.
I mainly want to meet some folks if possible and just be in the community. Ill let you know how the grow goes

Welcome to the shroomery. I edited your post to remove your location, which is strongly discouraged here for your own safety.
It will take a week to see growth from spores in most cases. Put them away and forget it for awhile, which gives you plenty of time to study the forum and learn while you wait. RR

Good call, and thanks.
Yeah I know the usual time is around a week, but last time I had a stroke of luck on a few that colonized rather quickly.
That was a long time ago though and my memory could be deceiving me.

Probably is. wait patiently, you will see growth later next week if things are right. Good Luck

I wonder which will colonize faster? The mazapatec or ecuador strain.
Both spore syringes were very healthy and FULL of spores which was very nice.

3 days. Still not even a spot of Myc growth on any of the 12 jars.
I inoculated them a few hours after boiling. They felt normal to the touch. I wonder if they were warmer inside then I Thought?

I know i'm stoked. Although i'm still trying to decide what to do with 6 pints of mazapatec and 6 pints of equador.
I wanted to try making a case out of 3 of each, just birthing the remaining 6 into a FC.
I wonder what a good intro basic casing method would be... Pure perlite? Perlite / vermiculite?
I want to get one of those flushes like you see folks posting pics of all the time with an entire tray full of healthy full size mushrooms

Ok well I guess no one know anything about casing? Either that or they have no desire to share it with me in answer form.
My next question is could my jars colonization time be quickend by putting the jars in my outside storage closet instead of my inside one? Temps can reach 85-90 out there and rarely see above 70-72 in here with the A/C.
They are colonizing, but AGONIZINGLY slow and I was just curious if that is the cause. All other things are flatline (moisture content was spot on, etc)

Stop bumping your own thread, half of the Shroomery is asleep right now.
Here:

The temps your jars are at presently are fine. 85-90 is way too high and the mycelium will suffer for it.

Sounds good i'll keep them inside.
They are just colonizing rather slowly compared to what i've read from others.
I did use really coarse grade vermiculite instead of the fine grade stuff, so maybe that is contributing?

First off, your jars are very, very full, which is going to increase the time it takes for full colonization (More fruits though, I suppose, so, it's a good tradeoff IMO)
But, it's not uncommon for a jar to take 15-30 days after germination to achieve full colonization.
I was growing some enoki mushrooms (:D) on BRF cakes, and my last jar took over 3 months to fully colonize... The others took less than a month... And all came out fine, contam free.
Just put it on a shelf, up high, and come back in 10 days or so. It's been 7 days... Seriously, barely enough time to germinate let alone grow...!
For my first flush, I normally get around 4g "street dry" or 3g "Cracker dry" (I make chocolates for friends)... To do this, I use a full jar like you have, and use a bit of honey in the water used to hydrate the verm/brf cakes before steam sterilization... But, the best way to get good fruits is a large amount of FAE, pick up a cheap 10$ aquarium pump and an airstone on an online auction site, and have it pump air into a glass of water in the FC.
Basic casing, I'd just use a 50/50 mix of your choice, Coco coir is alright, but it's got nutrients in it, which increases your chances of contams... I've always used potting soil + verm successfully, with 3-4 flushes per casing without contams...

Awesome reply thanks bro.
Yeah i'm considering casing 3 of each strain since I have 6 jars of both, and just cake birthing the remaining 3 of each strain. That should give me ample shroomage from 6 cakes if both casing attempts fail miserably from my newbiness.
I will probably do something simple like peat moss / vermiculite as a caseing. I really want a pan full of nice tall juicy fruits
I am trying to stock up for the rest of the year. It is a bit tough with my travel / work schedule so my goal is to do this to a point where I won't have to grow again for a while.

3 jars haven't germinated yet but i'm going to leave them for a while to not waste spores re-innoculating.
