I am seriously about to torch this POS just to watch it burn
a few months ago i got a totally new computer(less case). i put it all together and all i got was the MSI mobo logo. nothing worked. i exchanged it for another with no problem. this time while plugging my usb hub in a little spark went from the main plug to the comp. i thought that was weird and didnt use it this time. since then ive been through 2 video cards. the first just wouldnt hold a rez(radeon). and it wasnt a driver issue. the second lasted many months and then shorted out(nvidia). it would put my powersupply into protect mode and shut the computer off. so now im back to my old vc that i wanted to fucking upgrade from!! is it a case issue? but how could it be? a case is a case..........

I"d say replace the motherboard if its under warranty just to get that factor out of the equation, then replace the video card if you haven't already. The power supply should ground the case but since from what I read, static went trough your usb right? if thats the case it could have shorted out...well was the usb next to the video card? if something was shorting out your video card via the motherboard it would do it instantly, not wait months then do it. I'm thinking its heat, the fan could have stopped working on the video card and over heated it, did you uninstall the onboard video drivers and disable the onboard video in bios? that always gives me issues......are you getting another video card?

I'd do two things...
1) Check the wall plug to ensure proper grounding (three prong plug with good ground wire) and ensure that you do not have a hot-neutral reverse fault.
2) I'd replace the power supply. I don't know what you purchased, but ultra-cheap power supplies are ultra-bad on your expensive hardware components. Get a good power supply as recommended by some of the hardware tech boards. (Good doesn't mean the most expensive you can find.)
... after that, go with the other suggestions.

this is already the second mobo. I emailed the mfr and they said to bare bones it outside the case. im not taking this thing apart again. its 'working'. would it even help? they want me to do this before i get another i guess. i should also say that the ide port never worked. i use sata so it doesnt matter. but thats one more thing. i did think it was the power supply and got a new cheap one and it did the same thing. the original is a Antech 500w.
