nothing lives forever. you'll need to return to spores after the 3rd generation or else the strain will lose vigor and succumb to viral/bacterial buld up.------------------ Visit http://www.drooldonkey.org Global Psychedelic Community, Forums & Chat, Teks & Tips.

How can I tell a "generation" of the mycelium if it just grows through the honey water, and then into new honey water jars. Also, how long does a spore syringe last, as I guess I could use 1-2cc from the syringe, go a few generations from honey water (using old honey water to innoculate new) and then start with new honey water from the syringe, I was hoping it would work just from honey water to new honey water.

Anyone else got an opinion, or can help me out? I really NEED to know whether or not I can keep growing out the same mycelium from one honey jar to the other.

If you want to maintain a strain for years then the only methods that are proven are agar techniques.Low nutrient recipies. Storage in sterile water or reduced temperatures in culture slants. Sterilie mineral oil films help some strains and damage others. But if you follow the basic rules and watch the P-factors (Stamets) then you should have captured a strain for 2-10 years; the former being the optimum life.

I thought that honey water was the same concept as agar, just a liquid culture technique.
