MJ growing spindly

So I had this plant in a peat pot, with MGMC soil, and it took off nicely at first. When it was about 3 inches tall, I put a light over it. Just a fluorescent grow light, about 5 inches from the top leaves. It has grown tall and spindly, and fell over, so I transplanted to a larger pot, and staked it up with bamboo skewers and garden tie straps.
I also placed it outside, since that is where it will be grown to maturity.
Any ideas what else I could do to make the stem stronger? I haven't applied much fertilizer yet, because I didn't want to shock or burn the plant.

it grew like that due to lack of light, if i were you i would start over and give them some good light from the get go so they wont stretch.
good luck

no saving this one huh?
I'm no expert on growing MJ, but I figured I'd try it out, just a few plants.
I have some going outside, that I started outside, and they're doing beautiful. Had to cage them due to animals.

Try replanting it down to where the leaves start and get it into some light.Be careful not to damage the root.

Looking at your container I would say no.The plant should be fairly easy to remove in that stage so once removed place it down deeper in the soil(leaves just above the soil),the long stem part will become root.

will this hinder the overall growth of the plant? or will it make it stronger, like with Pumpkins and watermelons, if you bury the growth, it tends to root itself????

itll be fine just put it in full sunlight; and water when the top of the soil is dry... also if thats the only one u got u will have wasted alot of time if it turns out to be a male plant

I have more out and about the yard, this one I tried to start indoors for the hell of it. But that thought did cross my mind too!
Another question.... when and what type of fertizer should I apply?

use a diluted miracle grow all purpose plant food [3 tbsp per gallon] 3 times a week then when it flowers use miracle grow bloom diluted (same amount) and stop using all fertilizers 2 weeks before harvest.
be sure to flush the pots with fresh water 1-2 times every 60 days....

fluorescent can be placed alot closer than 5 inches from the plant, the closer the light the more robust your plant will be. When and if you switch to HPS or MH they need too be about a foot away from the herb unless its air cooled.

HPS = High Pressure Sodium
what is MH?
I will be growing this outside anyways...

Okay, so now I have a question about one of my outdoor plantings... When can I sex a plant? I think I know what to look for, but not 100%
I have a plant that is about a foot tall, it has a few single leaf branches on it, with what look like teeny tiny leaves where the branch grows from the stem.... is it to young to sex yet?
Also I tested my soil in the pot that I have the picture of above, and the nitrogen levels were showing tghat I had more than enough by the color indication chart, and my PH was about 6.5.
Is this acceptable?

It's not possible to tell if the plant is a male or female if they are grown outdoors?
