What are sum of you dead heads favorite show or year the dead played? I dont really have a favorite but i like anything at the Greek theater, especially the 80's stuff i love Brent mydlands keys so trippy. The 85 shows at the Greek are amazing the drums are so cool in those shows especially June 15-16 1985. 8-18-89 and 8-19-89 are good too. I also like a bunch of there earlier stuff with pigpen on vocals and organ the good lovin's that he free-styles in are A+.

oooh fun topic!
favorite years.... hm, too many to pick from!
i love the raw energy of '71 jazz of '73, a bit of '74 (altho not as much as '73) gotta love '77 and alot of '78 really shines then it takes the huge leap to '85 then '87-'89 are all real fun.
i drop out when vince comes in, but there's obviously some gems even from that era.
and if i had to pick a "favorite" show... well this is one i enjoy very much.

I think 77 was by far the best year. My favorite show is July 5th at the Boston Garden. Especially the second set, classic.

I like every Dead era, but '93 is special because my Dad took me to my only Dead show with Jerry.
I'm sure you seen my thread talking about how a Deep Dead collection was left on my doorstep last week. Well on Friday morning there was a framed '93 Tour poster sitting there.
I sill don't know who has been leaving these but it reminds me of the people I was introduced to that night. Dead Family.

So somebody is leaving dead memorabilia on your door step and you have no idea who? Cool

Yeah, it's a mystery to me. Kind of like the Steal Your Face Coin A old man gave me at the show. It was weird, me and my Dad where walking down Shakedown and this ancient Deadhead ran up to me waving franticly then handed me a coin doulblesided Steal Your Face then ran away all fried out. My Dad winked at me and I have always wondered what that was all about.

Yeah, I've seen The Other Ones, Phil and Friends, and Ratdog many times. Fluff Family. I'm 2nd generation Fam, but am open minded when it comes to music and I am really into the SoCal electronic music scene, Dubstep, but I am being reminded of where I came from with all this Dead energy that has been given to me as of late.

Too many to choose... 1966 and 1969-1972 were all great years (especially the '72 European tour, and any high sound-quality boards from '69). I'm not a huge Keith fan, so '73-'75 aren't my favorite. 1977 was an undeniable peak though, particularly in the spring; stately and majestic sums up that period well.
I'm a huge fan of Brent's B2, so fall 1979 through 1981 is pure gold to me. The energy really tapered off 1982 through 1985, but I liked the back-to-blues direction they took things with their song selections. Then things really picked back up again 1988 up until Brent's death, summer 1990.
To be honest, I've never really listened to too much of the Dead between Brent and Jerry's death. Somehow I can't get used to hearing Vince on the keys.

it's weird, there's like a huge hole in that role people like brent and keith played. the keys are just kind of there... rather than driving the music into different paths with everyone else.
vince gets way too much shit than he deserves, he's a good keyboardist, but let's face it, he was new, nervous, and the dead weren't really at their prime either. and everyone seemed to start comparing him to hornsby so things went right down hill right after hornsby left.
the odds were against vince is all i'mt rying to say.
