Cool Thought so. Is it better to let this grown in a colder or warmer ambient temp?

The ambient temp should be the optimal temp of the species you want to grow - in the instance of cubes, around 25C, give or take one or two degrees.

I'm just gonna post so i have this thread on my list.... but ehh with this bucket technique.... though i just quickly swam through the forum.... i am wondering how you sterilized the bucket... i willl look round this thread later when i have more time... but
if no one said anything yet (or is not opposed to saying it again) how DID you sterilize the bucket?

Wash well in hot, soapy water, rinse and allow to drip dry. You can then wipe it out with some alcohol soaked paper towel if you want, but I have found if you wash it well enough, you can skip that step. Allowing them to drip dry upside down is the best way, as you don't wipe anything around the inside of the chamber, and because they are upside down it stops dust and spores from floating in.
Its not sterile, but its clean. When using a 50/50 spawn ratio, you give the mycelium a good chance to get going past any possible contams.
Zero contam rate so far..... *crosses fingers*

Yeah that's what I did, and also used an Iso soaked paper towel.
I have just noticed a 'Seaweed' like smell coming from my bucket, I hope it's nothing serious?? The caps of my shrooms are looking a bit black from moisture on top of the shower cap, maybe they are rotting?
I can see literally hundreds of pins coming up to for the second flush..

sorry for the bump and the noob questions but could this tek be used with brown rice flour and vermiculite (aka easy non-icky substrate lol) and i read through the thread and how do you pastureize substrate (is this even applicable to aforementioned mixture?)
now for the ultra-noob question casing is the stuff u put on top of the fully colonized substrate to keep it moist right? (vermiculite?)
sorry to all that have to read this i just recently found about the joys of growing our favorite fungus and im starting from basically nothing but what ive read but the sources ive found generally assume that you have some clue of what you are doing >.<

You should probably direct your questions to the mushroom cultivation thread, as people there are willing to offer help, while this thread is the grow logs and pictures forum.
To start you off though, you should read through this very thoroughly and familiarise yourself with how they fruit their pf cakes in buckets -
http://www.fungifun.org/English/Pftek
And do a search on this site for casing. All the info you need is at the top of this page, under the shroomery logo, in the mushroom information drop down menu.
And remember, you might not like the 'non-icky' stuff, but your mushrooms will LOVE it. You need to decide whether you want clean hands and crap shrooms, or if you want killer mushrooms and a little dirt under your fingernails....

Sorry for the bump, but I'm going to be doing a bucket probably in the next couple of days. Only thing is, I seem to be the only one who is not going to be spawning to bulk. I have seven quarts of WBS fully colonized waiting to be birthed, and I'm gonna go get a slightly-more-than a foot tall bucket soon.
Basically what I'm asking is will this still work if my substrate is solely colonized WBS? I'm gonna case with MGMC, if that's relevant. Maybe I won't case at all (if that'll work).

you could always split the difference... 7 qts is a pretty deep high nute substrate... thats a lot of room for error down at the bottom of the bucket.
if you do do a bucket with 7 qts... you may want to make sure that it gets some extra FAE's the first few days while the myc re-establishes on the grain.
just a few thoughts.

Alright. Sounds good. I'm preparing the bucket right now. I'll just fan it a little more the first couple of days.

I don't have a grow log for it. I used a spore print from a wild sub, inoculated a small jar of WBS, let it fully colonise and then added some boiled and cooled woodchips to the bucket with the WBS. It looks like it's starting to colonise now.

Two jars of spawn per bucket, but you could get away with one depending on the size of your jars.
