Got my Watercooling system going!

So after a couple weeks of waiting for the parts to ship, I finally have everything I need for my CPU loop. So I set it up this evening. Here's what I've got so far.
Swiftech 355+XSPC Restop -> Swiftech MCR220+zalman M3's -> EK Supreme waterblock -> Back to res.
Here's a photo of the system:

I was going to add dye to it, but I'm getting a Swiftech GPU waterblock the MCW60 or whatever the model number is. I'm going to add it to this loop and cool the bottom card (the main card) in my crossfire for the moment until I can afford to build my 2nd seperate loop. The main card gets 15-20C hotter than the top secondary card under loads.
I'm currently getting idle temps around 17C (23-24C cores), and load temps around 30-31C (cores 35-36C) on 4000 Lucras @ 1024K. It (the cores) increase about 1.5C when I do the 800,000 Lucras at 8K, CPU @ 30-31.
Here are Idle/Load temps.
Hope you like the performance of the EK.

Nice temps!
A few years ago i had a plan to build a very high end PC inside of a mini fridge.
I had planed it all out, but never got to do actual trials. I still have the mini fridge, but i have since sold/scraped most all the pc parts.
I cut out a large hole in the door, and put two sheets of plexi with a vaccume between them into the hole, and sealed it. This way I could look into it, and not loose the insulative properties of the door.
Next, I punched a hole in both sides of the fridge, and ran 4" heavily insulated and sealed dryer hose, through a vaccume pump that ran the air through a desiccant, and back into the fridge. Thus removing most if not all moisture from the air inside.
I dropped the freezer box a few inches, and mounted the motherboard inside of it. This way it had room for all the PCIe cards, and the heatsinks. Insulated with rubber gromits, and the power supply was mounted to the bottom of the freezer box, insulated and grounded as well.
All of the drives were mounted into the side of the fridge. I cut out a square hole, and saved the peice, was in the process of fabricating it into fold down doors for the drives to open, and the fridge to remain more or less sealed, and insulated.
For the USB's, DVI's, audio, MIDI, etc, i was planning on using jumpers, plug them into the MB, sound card, videocards, and run them out the back as pigtails, and seal the hole.
I was also going to mount multicolored LEDs inside of it for a light show effect.
I never got around to finishing it, i got out of gaming for the most part, moved to VA for a while, and lived with my sis, and brother in law. He used Macs, and after trying OSX, and Warcraft, i was hoked.
I since quit warcraft, but i have no respect or want windows anymore, and i still dont game enough to feel like spending the money at this point. And My Imac runs great, and i can play Reason 4/Logic Pro.
But since i still have the fridge buried in the shed somwhere, in the future i may make a Hackentosh, but thats a ways away.

As counter-intuitive as it sounds, a normal residential fridge does not have enough capacity to keep a modern, high end computer properly cooled.

Thats more than likely true. Since there would be little airflow even with the vaccume pump; there is nothing to force the cool air over the heatsinks and other warm/hot circuitry. Other than convection, lol.
Though that could easily be overcome, a few fans near the optical and Hard drives, even across the MB. The CPU, and/or GPU could be water cooled with a saline solution, maybe even iso alcohol or acetone; To prevent the water from freezing. well acetone may not be the best, but you get the idea.
If done correctly, im sure you could keep the CPU in or close to single digit temps (C) without too much trouble.
Expensive, kinda.
Time consuming, oh yea.
Fun, damn straight.
And once its completed, parts should be easily changed if need be. And over clocking would be that much more beneficial, if you can keep the CPU cool enough, and not burn out the compressor from being on all the time.
Oh and sorry to jack your thread DRT, you have a really nice setup going there, have you run any GPU or CPU benchmarks yet? Its been a long time since i have done benchmarking on a PC, but im sure you'd get some great results with that setup.

It is actually a matter of heat transfer and how much heat a residential fridge can move. They are designed to keep cool things cool, not to constantly cool something that creates heat. As I said, counter-intuitive, but when you run the numbers, you quickly realize that the hot side produces more heat than the cold side can remove. Remember, all you are doing is moving heat from inside the fridge to outside the fridge.

Ahh, i see what you're saying now.
And yea, id imagine the coils on the back of the fridge would get extreamly hot, trying to remove all that constant heat from inside, out into a warm room. Thinking about it, im sure that the inside would be still be warm, and all you would accomplish would be to burn out the compressor/condenser, and a high energy bill.
Hrmm, well least i didnt spend too much time or money on it, hahaha. This was about 3 years ago, and ive sold all my pc parts.
Im sure there is a way to 'refrigerate' a pc, but im thinking it would just be a water cooled system, and the reservoir would be cooled, but then id be worried about condensation on the electronics. I dont know, i geuss it wont be me coming out with a new cooling method, lol.
Good discussion as always Seuss.

Nice water cooling system! Don't be stingy. Where did you buy it and how much did it cost? Was it hard to install?
I'm looking to overclock my Q6600, so this is definitely a possibility.

Bought most of the parts from Jab-tech, FrozenCPU and the radiator from Performance-Pc's. Built the system myself, wiht my own selection of tubing and waterblocks.
EK Supreme for the CPU swiftech MCW60 for the GPU waterblock (getting a 2nd one for the 2nd videocard next week, I'll have more photos of it then). Swiftech MCR220 Radiator. I might need to get a 320 if the 2nd GPU dumps too much heat into the loop. Swiftech DDC 355 pump w/ XSPC Res-Top (best performance and quiet too!)
Tygon tubing 1/2OD 3/8ID, and compression fittings.
Spent a little under 400 including shipping and handling for the watercooling system. The performance is amazing.

Where do you have the radiator mounted? How much noise does the system produce? What kind of chassis is that?

Spec Info.
Radiator is mounted on the back, when I install the 900rpm resisters for my fans, the Zalman 120mm fans produce less noise together than my power supply's fan. In fact I want to change the fan in the PSU.

It is nice to see that you have excelled to the level of color usage, but complete sentences also help convey the meaning of otherwise cryptic double negatives. Also, there is a button called "caps lock" which allows you to type in lowercase. Finally, the Q6600 is a bit on the low end of the Intel quad chips. If you really care, then why not care about something decent?

That looks pretty badass.. I've been thinking about watercooling my rig but just can't justify the cost..
Maybe on my next PC... mine gets kind of hot while gaming but not THAT hot.

Mine would actually reach 90C (the graphics cards) and crash in crossfire mode at 1920x resolutions because of the heat. :| Now they don't go above 40C at 1920x .

some guy over in a third world, made his water cooling system from scratch it was pretty awsome. He built his case, the copper blocks, resvoir, radiator....everything from scratch, drilled and welded it all.
can't remember what he ended up spending, but apparently it was a fun project with little rewards in the end
