Racing Horse poo
    #847945 - 08/27/02 09:50 PM (14 years, 3 months ago)

Well I had the pleasure of meeting a friend who can organise me an unlimited supply of free racing horse poop.
The Horses are obviously fed the best with vitamen supplements and the best quality straw and whatever else the Race horses are fed.
My question is probably irrelivent but I was wondering if it would really make much a difference using this poo or just sticking to my pasture raised horse that eats just fine as well.

I`m thinking though more nutrients going into the poop, the more nutrients will be excreted into the poo.
So by that reasoning the racing horse should have far better poop.
What you guys think?

...and what ever else race horses are fed...
uhum...steriods...uhum
shouldn't make that much difference but if it's free why not try.
i mean, unless you have to perform any unpleasant sexual favors to get it...

Race horses are often fed Alfalfa.

Not sure how this will effect the horse poo.

I'd try it and see how it works.

I guess experiments are needed.
I was also concerned with the steroid factor.
I`m not sure if we feed our race horses alfalfa here in SA Roadkill??
But like I said, I`ll get a load and grow grow grow.
Can`t hurt.

I didn't think of where you lived....sorry.

No idea....about S.A.

I know Race horses in the USA are fed alfalfa.
In fact alfalfa is a premium feed for them.

Good luck with your poo!

Relax....Don't freak out.....we are just talking.

I just haven't seen anyone use horse poo from a horse fed alfalfa....yet....is all.

I'm not saying that alfalfa isn't good.....someone just needs to try it.....or maybe someone has and can tell us if it worked out ok for them.

alfalfa is better for horses than hay.....but for shrooms?
might turn out that alfalfa horse poo is better.....never know.

you might be the one!
please keep us updated on your progress.

Whatever the specifics, I bet race horse poo would be faster colonizing than pokey horse poo. Haha get it, race horse! Just make sure it comes from the winning horse....

My bet is that the alfalfa etc doesn't hurt it, may in fact help it. It's the chems and drugs I'd be concerned about. But if it works, use it...

cute!

I'm worried about alfalfa....cause it's usually really green and fresh.....not dried out like hay.
Guess a test is in order!

i wondered the same thing. the horse poo in my area is green, moist, and alfalfaey when i break it open. but the drier stuff looks pretty much brown.

i am guessing it is probably fine to use. please let me know.

Train,

If its dried out all the way through...and isn't greenish....give it a try.....only use 1 jar to test it out.....just in case you lose it.

I'm going to go find some and test it out myself.

In my opinion the best poop is probably from animals that feed on a natural variety of grasses/hay opposed to a single type of feed.

My friend grew some massive shrooms on wild grasses. Just went out and chopped some wild grasses and pasturized them. When I went over there we picked a mushroom and it weighed 110 grams wet. Maybe grass/hay is an option for you too. Where I live there is wild grasses/hay everywhere. It's at least good to mix in with you poo I think.

I'm trying an experiment on sprouted alfalfa . I would guess alfalfa is fine. Who knows though I havent heard anything about it.

I mix all my poo with grass/hay sold by a feed store in the area.
All my ingredients come from the surrounding farmlands.
So I`m pretty sure I`ve got good quality products.
That and the fact that those damn rubbermaid containers keep getting filled with shrooms.
Damn I don`t know what to do!!!

Boohoo

Only use poop from the winners you don't want your shrooms to finish out of the money

Here's a quote in the mushroom cultivator regarding phase 1 composting.

"Horse manure used by commercial mushrooms farms generally comes from race tracks. The bedding straw is changed frequently, producing a material that is light in urin and dropings. On the other hand bording stables change the bedding less, generating a heavier material."
