that was a great speech. He knows his shit.
-------------------- The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to selfishness; From selfishness to complacency; From complacency to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage.

I think race plays less and less of a role as people become more and more interconnected and the ability to communicate increases. With the advent of the internet, it became commonplace to come in contact with people from very different cultures.
-------------------- ...the whole experience is (and is as) a profound piece of knowledge. It is an indellible experience; it is forever known. I have known myself in a way I doubt I would have ever occurred except as it did. Smith, P. Bull. Menninger Clinic (1959) 23:20-27; p. 27. ...most subjects find the experience valuable, some find it frightening, and many say that is it uniquely lovely. Osmond, H. Annals, NY Acad Science (1957) 66:418-434; p.436

after the military, you don't even see race. Not that I really cared before, but that speech is no news here.

Fixed.
Internet people are becoming a social group of their own, sharing a worldwide culture of LOLCATS and youtube vids, ways of communicating and looking at issues that never existed before.
<zomgbees!!1> you're chatting with in IRC could be of any gender, of any age, of any nation and of any race. Over a billion people come online every now and again.
Theres no visual cues, and in our Anonymous Forum not even a name or reputation to hold onto. All you have is a persons words and actions, pure communication based on merit, not preconceptions.
One of the good things about the internet is that people can find facts and factoids on an unprecedented scale but have to discriminate more critically than they are used to about what information comes in.
Like with the topic at hand, people are finding out at a staggering rate that we're being played, deceived, and which tricks are used to convert people into sheeple.
Race still is a big issue though. Old habits die hard, but also control is being applied more strongly than ever before in history.
A black friend of mine is being pulled over for bullshit by cops at least five times a year.
For racism and other intolerance, look no further than some things that happen right here on the shroomery.
Its still a big issue, but people realizing they are being manipulated is a big step in the right direction.

some more food for thought. Quoted from a talk I herd at a conference by an old Economic Anthropologist from PSU.

Karl Marx told us that the windmill gave us feudalism, and that the steam mill gave us Capitalism. What than does the micro-chip give us?

True, I cannot wait to see some of these girls that spend all day texting in old age. Texting Thumb is what they'll call it.
I think you may have failed to see the point though. Economic systems that have acted independently are increasingly becoming intertwined. the advent of computers have in no small part attributed a large part to this. Something is happening here that will only be clear to most people in the next few decades, but that has been going on for awhile now.
