You can dunk right after birth yes..... It`s called baptizing lol... Just kidding...... Yes you can..... It will add moisture to the cake and usually make a more prolific flush and somewhat larger fruits than a cake that hasn`t been dunked.

So right after birthing I would place the cakes in a jar for about 24 hours?

yes, that's a simple way to do it, i would recomend using a .3 percent H2O2 solution in water, that is, using one part hydrogen peroxide that says 3 percent on the pottle and mixing with 9 parts water. it's realy not nessecary for the first flush but it's cant realy hurt and can help your odds.
dunking is usualy done in a jar in the refridgerator.

After I dunk my cake, do I place them in the refrigerator with it submerged? And where would I get the Hydrogen Peroxide?

so the idea is that you boil some water, let it cool, then pour some (just approximate?) into the half pint jar you just pulled the cake out of and then drop your cake back into there, screw lid on and put in the fridge for 12 hours?

or do you have to wash the jar before dunking?

My dog has been injecting distilled water into cakes with a sterilized syringe. Working great! . I'm liking this bettter than dunking as far as simplicity.

I always used to inject sterile water into my cakes after birthing them.....when I did cakes.
Then I would dunk them after the first flush!

What? How hard is dunking unless you're doing dozens of jars? My cat scraped the top vermiculite layer off, banged the jars to loosen the cakes, poured some spring water in the jars, tightened the lids, and stuck them back in the box they came in for 12 hours. It took her around 30 minutes. She had 100% success with no contamination and good flushes.

Yes, I've been eating them, for six or seven weeks now, haven't got sick once.

O.K. You didn't say it was hard, but you said it was a pain in the "arse." I think you meant the positives of dunking don't outweigh the negatives. I'll take the liberty and assume you didn't literally mean that it causes pain to your anus when you dunk the cakes (at least I hope so). I should have been more clear. Do you mean it was not worth the time, effort, and/or expense to dunk then? It took my cat 30 minutes, $1 worth of spring water, and a minimal amount of physical exertion to dunk them. Her cakes have fruited quite well.

Cakes for me are nothing more than a novelty. I invest as little effort as possible. I get a flush, clone the best, and take some prints. That's all I care about.

I think I understand now. You use cakes to clone and print, but not for growing for yield. If you've grown with grains and bulk substrate then I guess cakes seem like a waste of time. For my cats needs, though, they suffice. I've read they are good to use if you want to test a strain to see how it fruits and yields because it is a good control. Also, if you have a difficult to find strain that you want to be extra careful not to lose to contamination it is helpful to use cakes to increase the chances you'll get a print or clone.

Very true.

I used to use cakes just for that reason.
I didn't want to lose the strain.

to make the job of dunking even easier,
i like to toss a dozen or so cakes into a large ziplock baggie then add water & toss in fridge.
less a pain than filling individual jars.
