How did you prepare the rye? What type of rye is it? What temperature are you incubating/colonizing at? How are you providing gas exchange? Is the Aluminum Foil still on the jar?

This tek has worked wonders for me.. I did tweak it just a lil.. I use different lids (two layers of tyvek, some polyfill and one big hole in the middle for inoculation and gas exchange) and spawn to a mix of verm, coir, chicken poo and gypsum. But the basic principle of this tek remains the same. Thank you Magash for opening my cultivation world to rye berries!

Please don't start this nonsense again. Magash's rye tek works just fine. Is it still the case that you have never grown a mushroom? Have you ever tried the tek, or are you criticizing something you have no experience with? You caught a 30 day MushCult ban for instigating this kind of shit when you shouldn't have. I would prefer it if we didn't go down that road again.

I remember reading this tek back in the day...
Magash is right in every aspect of the perpetration of the rye but as soon as he shows that Tit it's bombs away... Magash is cool but still, the tub has ruined a great many grows...incubate rye jars on a shelf, never incubate grains unless you know for a fact its at 72-78f, any higher has always caused major issues with wetspot.
Kinda weird seeing this prep coming up in the forums years later after having to figure out for myself why I lost so many grain jars using the tub in tub incubator method before switching over to room temperature shelves.

IMO one of the worst guides on this entire site.
1. Failure to properly rinse grains. 2. Popping a hole directly through the synthetic filter disk. 3. Sterilizing A Casing and Substrate without having anything in the casing to fight off contaminants. 4. Using coco coir as a casing which you can...but can easily overlay and contaminate easier then a casing with 50% Peat Moss, 50% Vermiculite. 5. Scooping grains out? Easily cut in half grains or damage leaving them exposed to Contaminants far greater then if you were just to break them with a bicycle tire.
(Now I know these sound like Well you're just following RR, no. It's called taking a mycological approach to things.)

not necissary, I never rinse my grains regardless of what they are, including WBS, never had an issue

doesnt matter, tape works wonders to cover a hole

3. Sterilizing A Casing and Substrate without having anything in the casing to fight off contaminants.
debatable, I sterilize all my casings and substrates, clean procedures help fight off contams, substrates need to be sterile

anything can contaminate or overlay, again procedure and techique, things like this are how people gain experience

doesnt matter if you're using clean procedures, bike tires are a poor choice for breaking up jars anyway, not enough sidewall tp be effective without risking breaking the jar

you mean 'scientific approach'?

Anyone who uses 'Popcorn' as a spawning material deserves to be held down and slapped in the face with a sock filled with elephant seaman.

well, i never rinse my grains (also) and have not had a problem.
i use coco coir as a substrate and a casing and haven't had a problem.
i don't add ANYTHING to the coir in order to avoid contaminates.
i scoop the grains out with a fork into the tub.
i've been getting four flushes. no contaminates.
any questions?
