"How does cold shock help the cake?"
When you put a cake in the fridge the mycelium thinks that winter it coming and that it is going to die, therefore it will start to pin and put out mushrooms so more spores can be produced before it dies.
The same concept works with plants also. If you take a cactus and put it in a cold room for a month or so it will start to produce flowers because it thinks its gonna die.

Well, the low temperatures do inhibit bacterial growth. That's why things don't go bad as quickly in the fridge. Common sense man!

considering that i invented the tek, i think i can safely say that that's the main purpose, to inhibit bacterial growth. the bonus of a 'cold shock' is icing on the cake, and fairly irrelevant as cubensis needs no cold shock to fruit, cold shocking is a technique used in fruiting azures, which do need cold.

Hey what's up. Quick question. I dunked in the refridgerater for approximately 24 hours. When I took the cakes out the water was starting to freeze up around the cake... do you think this will kill the cake? There was only a little ice in the water around the cake. What do you think the prognosis may be?
Thanks

Turn down the setting in your fridge. Also isn't it suppose to be done for 12 hours? I heard over 24 can drown the cake and kill it.

thanks again
