Soar throat and back phlem trouble.

OK i have a problem. Or should i say my girlfriend has one, that effects me. She thinks that the new house me moved into is causing her to get sick. She has had a soar throat for months now, on and off, but almost every morning like clockwork. Also she coughs up a bunch of black stuff in the morning and through out the day as well. She hasn't really smoked any pot or anything at all in about 4 months now.
WE thought it was dust, but i dusted the whole bedroom top to bottom and her syptoms continue. Anyone have any idea why the house would be to blame, when i sleep beside her with absolutely no syptoms myself?
We are about ready to pack all of our stuff up and move out, when i don't think it is neccesarry.

Or built-up tar resurfacing from smoking.

I don't see any signs of mold. But that doesn't mean there is not mold i can't see i suppose.
Is there a reason why i am uneffected?
The tar would resurface for up to 4 months? She did take a tincture called "Deep Lung" my friend reccomended, he was coughing up black stuff too for about a month, but no longer, from what i know.
As for the doctors she is reluctant and always looks for homeopathic ways to treat herself, but i personnaly think the doctor would be best.

She have a homeopathic way to culture that black stuff and find out what it is? Because otherwise, I suggest the doctor

You may not be able to see sign of mold, it could be in the walls even.
I would have to say see the doc man. coughing up black stuff is pretty bad. When tar resurfaces, it is usually an orange to cream color.

yeah some people are more sensitive to specific molds than others. whatever you use as a heating system could also be a problem.
i was sick constantly as a kid, and i swear it was just something connected to my mother's old house.

Listen.. if its affecting her and not you in the way you described it is not an issue of sensitivity- meaning not an environmental problem ( or at least a problem with the environments you share. ) for black stuff to come out, you have to put some in, and you would both be exposed in a house. Check the house for mold, you should have any way at some point and continue to do so yearly. Most common places to check are under the bathroom ( or sinks ) or in the attic.
You should consider a professional inspection if you own the house.
She is probably sick, or encountering a contaminant at a place she spends alot of time with out you like work or in a secret lovers navigator (back seat?) Any how, does she work in a dusty, smoky, or dirty environment? That will do it. Any other routine changes that happened near the onset of this cough should be evaluated.
Meanwhile buy a hepa filtration device to circulate clean air in the house. This has a secondary benefit in mushroom cultivation. you should also change the furnace filters if you have any. Depending on your situation the air may need a humidifier or a de-humidifier to stay in a comfortable range for her in the house ... Invest.

Very sound advice.
Since her symptoms seem to be the result of an allergic reaction, she might also look into taking some over the counter allergy drugs. They will help her symptoms until you get the problem solved. Claritin (or Claritin D) or the generic called loratadine work well. Loratadine is cheaper and works just as well. I also recently saw that Zyrtec got FDA approval for OTC sales. That's a great med too, but expensive with no generic that I know of. Try to stay away from Benadryl, it's practically a sleeping pill.

Thanks for the help everyone it is much appreciated.
As for pills of any kind she has a phobia and can't even take vitams in pill form any more. She swears it upsets her stomache and i believe her.
The walls were all just recently painted, but there is a spot where the plastic lining is taring away in the shower. This could be a suspect for mold, but i haven't checked. But neither of us spend that much time in the bathroom, and the door is usually shut.
The tar is not so black i suppose as it is brown to greyish. I just dusted the house heavilly (and it needed it) I did so with a damp rag about 3 weeks ago, so maybe she is still coughing up dust?
I cough up a little in the mornings, but i smoke pot heavilly, but it is nothing more or less then the usual. She is constantly through out the day coughing stuff up. And now her throat is so bad that it is hurting her to talk!
Our heating source is a fireplace in the bedroom, which we haven't used in about a month now. And we have a propane wall heater in the kitchen/ familly room.

Well we are looking for another place to move right now, but if we can't find one, then we might be stuck for another 6 months.
Someone said that we could sue our landlord if we have a mold inspection turn up positive. I don't know if i want to do that though, he seems to be a nice guy. But then again if we can't afford our doctor bills then i am not sure what to do.
I also have been noticing the sound of rats scratching in our walls at 3am or so. I don't know how they get in there, though because we have a solid concrete foundation. Maybe it could be rat shit in the walls?
As for her occupation she is a waitress at a Vietnamese resturaunt. I thought it could be that too, but she said that lately her throat hurts In the morning and night, but not during work hours.

Sounds like mold or ozone. When I stayed at a hotel a few months ago there was an unusual build up of ozone. It makes you feel sick, scratchy/sore throat ect.

GO TO THE DOCTOR.
A phobia is much less dangerous than the sounds of her symptoms. Tell her to suck it up and see a doctor already.
Seriously, if it's SO BAD that you're considering moving, then it is bad enough that she NEEDS to see a doctor.
