also known as Pheasant Back Mushroom, pick them when young. The aroma is very distinctive smelling much like watermelon rind. Really pleasant! I have seen them described as "mealy" but that's not how they are around here. One fun way to cook this mushroom is to blanch it, coat it with thick sugar syrup and chill in the fridge. Makes excellent watermelon flavored candy.

Now that's what I call useful information!
Thanks!

Wow! Nice pictures of a nice place. I'm impressed by the leopard slugs, what cool creatures! How do they taste?
And candied polypores! what!?! That's awesome! I'll have to try the recipe - perhaps with little sweet smelling Lactarius.
If I may ask, what state are you in?

Taking into consideration the various protocols and codes of conduct prevalent at the Shroomery, it would only be logical to assume that implied answers to questions regarding locality, would be of a necessarily ambiguous nature - while fascinating from a sociological perspective, such vagaries do little to assist in our understanding of this planet and its biological life forms.

After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing, after all, as wanting. It is not logical, but it is often true.
