I did a similar thing...did my first spawn and made the damn thing look like the surface of the moon.  I believe an even surface is important - and especially when you're applying a casing layer.  But I wouldn't think that a bumpy substrate layer would cause too many problems with the pinset when compared to a more even uncased sub layer.  That's just pure speculation from what little I know about how the fungus operates though.

I'm definitely going to be more careful next time around, but it's a learning process and I am willing to bet that the yield will still be better than just fruiting the cakes :cool:

A better pic would be interesting at some point, just for curiosity's sake though.

Check out google's "Picasa" and go ahead and PM me if you have any questions. Essentially, what you'll do is "export" your photos to a new folder through that program, and set the image size to 800x600 or 1024x768...play around and see what kind of file quality/size you can come up with.

ALWAYS ALWAYS shoot with max resolution on your camera!

(Gotta add that to the photo tips thread)
