Brain Training
    #8445005 - 05/25/08 09:51 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

I seem to gather an ever increasing array of disciplines that I want to implement in my life (although their actual implementation remains largely uninitiated). My latest interest is "brain training", which refer to various puzzles or activities in computer programs you can use to increase "third-circuit" intelligence (in Leary's words), or simply, IQ. There are a couple programs on the market with staggered amounts of research behind them. On the low end is Nintendo's Brain Age. A more proven program is Posit Science. Good article here:

Recently a very promising technique was found by psychologist Susan Jaeggi; it was shown to improve "fluid intelligence": "So-called "fluid intelligence", or Gf, is the ability to reason, solve new problems and think in the abstract. It correlates with professional and educational success and it appears to be largely genetic."

I would love to hear anyone's experience with any programs or DIY techniques.

I bought the game "Brain Challenge" for PC for 10 bucks. I'm not sure if there is much science behind it, but it is pretty challenging in different ways (memory, logic, math). And pretty fun. Posit Science would have cost 395 bucks! (for the basic package!) I guess if it works, its worth it. It will be interesting to take nootropics to see how the results in these programs/games are effected! Maybe low dosage psychedelics would be a good variable as well.
