There is a "wet chemistry" module on board that will look for chemical signatures of life, but the main focus is analyzing whether the climate in the past was suitable for life.

I actually did analysis on the flight software for this lander when I was with NASA. I was really excited to hear it touched down without a hitch last night even if I missed the video in the hospital.
