How do you all go about sending your precious children through the mail, especially during the Summer months?

Ive seen them sent a few ways, one way is using boxes. my favorite way is making some kind of support like this
| [] | |----|
[] Represents where the plant goes. The frame is just like a flat piece of cardboard with some side supports so the plant cannot get crushed. Bare root the plant, wrap the roots with some wet papertowel/toilet paper. A flimsy newspaper bag with holes in it to put the plant in wont hurt. Anyways. once youve made your support and have your plant/plants ready, stick them properly in a bubble envelope.

wet paper towels and bubble wrap. it really depends what kind of plant you are refering to. theres a big difference bettween shipping a salvia compared to a trichocereus.

so if you take a seedling out of the soil. maybe leave a lil of the soil ball on it still and wrap in a wet paper towell, then wrap in bubble warp, then put in a shipping tube of correct size to hold it steady during shipping?

no you dont want to mail seedlings. unless its a sprouted seed in a paper towel in a ziplock. clones are easy shipping. im not saying its impossible to mail seedlings but if your talking uspostal service good luck with those underpaid bastards throwing your shit around. might as well mail the seed it would be safer.

i only recommend mailing rooted cuttings bare root. rooting medium makes them bulky which i dont like if its a certain plant. i put them in moist paper towels in a ziplock bag and ship priority. it does work with no roots just dip a little hormone on the tip and package the same. the moisture will keep the cut fresh. i keep them larger if they have no roots so it can be recut if need be.

about the life span i would give it 4-5 days in that kind of packaging. mold is your enemy here and being sealed its bound to occur after 3-5 days. speed is of the utmost importance here.

I persoannly hate it when vendors ship plants bare root. I lost my first Kratom plant that way. I always let them know I'm willing to pay extra to get a small cell pot with dirt added. The best is when they tape plastic over the top with a hole so the plant can poke through. The plastic wrap keeps the dirt in. Then a newspaper is wrapped around the cell pot or the top of the plant like a tube and taped closed. This way the plant won't snap.
Cactus specimens are different thoe. Since they are easier to root sometimes it's easier just to ship bare root. Especially if they are coming from overseas. Any Overseas shipments of plants are best shipped bare root or customs will have to inspect it and very likely destroy your plant. If they detect any amount of foreign soil included in your package then expect it to get checked six ways from Sunday and even then most probably destroyed.

I wrap rootballs with soil in aluminum foil. I package in boxes with balled up newspaper or paper towels. I dont use plastic bags so the plants can somewhat breathe.

what kind of plants are we talking about? cacti should be shipped bare root or no root no question. salvia needs to be shiped in some kind of substrate and very carefully....international cannot have ANY dirt (as far as customs/quarantine go), where as within borders it's ok.

My mouse batteries were low when drawing it so it was really hard to draw. The plant goes inbetween the styrofoam or whatever u use for the sides. They keep the plant from getting crushed. My trade ratings proof it works ^.^ . I learned this method from a member here stonehedge.
