Hello,
noob here. Just wondering if this amount of condensation was okay. Should I loosen the cap? Thank you all for your help.

Someone didn't follow their tek!!! Which tek are you using? How long has it been since you sterilized the jars?

I have never seen that much condensation in BRF jars. good luck...
To answer your question, the cap should have been loosened 1/4 turn before sterilization. You could have gotten water in them during sterilization. Also, you are supposed to let everything cool down before removing them from the pot. Just my thoughts.

The classic PF tek.
My notes on possible variations: -Used "tall" tapered half-pint -Used 1/4 cup water -Made my own brown rice flour -Possible over-heat/over-steam
It's been 4 days since sterilization. Any suggestions or should I start a new batch?

Well I did loosen them during sterilization and then followed PF tek instructions to tighten them back up once they cooled.
Yea I probably over-steamed them (left the heat too high). Guess I'll leave the lids loose and go ahead and start another batch since these probably won't do much lol

No the water was technically less (by only 1cc per jar). I guess from your replies I'll just have to be extra careful during the sterilization process next time around.

If you have access to rye and a pressure cooker, I would recommend doing that tek...

So that is basically the same procedure but replacing BRF with rye (and of course pressure cooking as compared to steaming)?
Funds are a little low right now for a pressure cooker though...

Make sure your jars are not in too much water. If you use a rack or other spacers, the water shouldn't touch the jars. Make sure you put foil on the lids to help prevent water from splashing on them. It doesn't take much extra water to fuck up a 1/2 pint jar.....

Then stick with the pf tek. Use less water, a little less for starters. And dont forget to put tin foil over your jars when you boil them.

The condensation is from the temperature differential. Use the recipe of 1 part brf, one part water, and two parts verm. Mix enough for several jars rather than mixing each jar separately.
I've never loosened lids during sterilization and see no reason to whatsoever. RR

I sometimes put elastics around the tin foil because im scared shit of having hte same problem you have...they break, but they get the job done first...

the jars look fine. Why would you loosen the jars during sterilzation??? That is the one of the stupidest things that I have heard.

Anyone want to second that? It makes logic to me; I think I may try that next time.

Step 4. Heat the pot of water to a boil. Put the jars into the pot with the lid bands loose so that the steam can penetrate the jars quickly.

Tighten your jar lids. The loose lid band is an artifact of the old PF tek .txt file days. I remember reading it on a dialup.
