A font to denote when sarcastic tone is being used?
    #8430976 - 05/21/08 10:40 PM (15 years, 10 months ago)

I know one can use the smirk gremlin to denote a sarcastic tone in voice. Sometimes the sarcasm is general and people don't like being smirked at. I was wondering about the possibility of creating a font option for when sarcasm is being typed?

It seems there are a lot of smart asses here that get there sarcasm taken literally and confusion sets in.

Just wondering. I think it would get used a lot.

keep the sarcasm, drop the smirk.

or keep the smirk, and drop the sarcasm.

or keep them both and don't worry about if the dims get it, or if it upsets those that don't like being smirked at.

I usually add a (sarcasm) to the end of my posts to help prevent confusion. You have an interesting idea, the [sarcasm] tag, but I'm not certain what would work to set it apart. What is a sarcastic font that would universally be recognized as sarcastic?

Perhaps there is a Microsoft Innovation font that we could use? (sarcasm)

^perfect example of my earlier post.  the sarcasm is obvious.

if one does not perceive the sarcasm and or/is offended by a :smirk: smiley that is their deal.

a [sarcasm] font would, in effect, kill sarcasm.

Seuss, check your PM's for that Microsoft Innovation font.

I take absolutely everything at face value.

What's sarcasm?

See they got it going on. We just need inverted exclaimation points on our keyboards:tongue:

How about and inverted exclamation point greamlin that will catch on here at least at the shroomery.

I see what some of you are saying about if you have to denote you used it, it's killed.

That's why I thought a font would be a little less of a kill then the smirk, or writing (sarcasm), Seuss! That always does kill yours and you use it a lot. I've even seen people take you literally with it anyway and your having to go back and point out that you noted what you said was in sarcasm. That's a pain isn't it?

Maybe there is no solution to being taken literally when we use it without killing it, or using that smirk face everyone has grown to hate.

I've seen people make long replys to me having taken some sarcastic blurbs literally and they wasted their time. Was just trying to figure out a way to prevent it without having to use smirkface smart ass face.

Thanks for tossing the idea around anyway.

I don't think a font will do work.  Many will neglect to use the font, or they will use it when it is inappropriate.

I would not use it.  A font or sarcasm mark would spoil the cleverness of it.  Sarcasm is best when subtle.  Smileys are more than adequate for reducing confusion.

Thanks for making it. I know I'll use it. It was funny and made the point of your sentence being said in sarcasm without killing it.
