Using Oven, then Boiling (Pf Tek substrate)

Just curious what you guys think on this...most of my jars are around 60% colonized, and out of 10 no contams...
I placed the vermiculite and brown rice flour in 2 separate oven-safe containers, and cooked for 20 minutes at 315.
After then, i THEN mixed them up, added water, put in jars and boiled for 1.5 hours.
Just curious, but do you guys think this is a pointless step? I didn't have to go out of the way, so I think I'll be doing this everytime from now on.
It's simple, and you can never be too safe.
If anyone has done what I've done , baked the substrate BEFORE mixing, what temps did you use, reason for using that temp?

If you're talking about the run in the oven, yes.

the pre steralizing in the oven is suggested in the magic mushroom growers guide, but i doubt its really all that necessary......through the time ive been here, i learned that most of my worries of contamination and such is just paranoia......all you really need to do is boil or pc them, which ever it is that you are using

yea thats what I was thinking, that its pointless.
The reason I think im still going to do it anyway is because it doesnt take any effort at all, but maybe i wont...hmm decisions

Well, if you have that much spare time on your hands, why not mow some lawns and save up enough $$$ for a used pressure cooker???

i was looking through a college text book which was listing lots of forms of bacteria and basically saying how good moist heat was compared to dry heat at sterilising. it listed temperature and time required to kill them. the interesting bit was there were some that were killed very quickly in the oven which took hours to kill at 100C moist heat. these were killed quite fast in at pressure cooker temps.

I would say yes, that is a bit much. I have had 100% success with just boiling for 40 minutes. Good luck to you
