how do i?

ive got innactives growing in my planter.
well theyre kinda at their end now, so i went and scooped up some of the woodchips that theyd been colonizing and put them in a tuperware container, moistened them a bit, and set on my computer in the dark.
what other steps should i take to try and get these lil buggers to fruit again?

i dont know really.
theyve been fruiting from the woodchips for the past month or so, and now theyve kinda finished up.
but today in my morning glories i noticed the same specie poppin up outta nowhere, and i have this little domw shaped tuperware, so i just ran down and scooped up a handfull of woodchips, and a shroom and threw them into the dome.
what can i do to try and get THIS species to fruit again?

First you need to find out which species you have growing. Then find out the correct temp./humidity and such in which they grow. Then, with any luck you might have your own in a tupperware tub........

ok, im thinkin about puttin some of this potting soil im using for my morning glories at field capacity over the wood chips, kinda like a casing layer
but i dont know anything about wood loving species to know if they colonize the woodchips like cubes do with grain or what...

Not sure either. But I am sure that someone here might know. I would like to have a mushroom garden some day. All different types would be cool. I will need to do a lot of research for what I want though. Well, like I said, Best of luck and let me know how it turns out.

well the woodchips took of with myc in the dome.
so i put some potting soil over them out of the planter with my morning glories and the chunk of dirt i grabbed had some pins coming up and a big ball of myc. so heres what it looks like now.
i think im gonna go grab some more woodchips for a surface layer, i like the way they look coming up thru chips

why not do some agar work to clean the other shit out so you get clean myc again, and make up some LC? and play around with it.

im on a plane for 24 hours and then you know how hectic the first few days of a move in are.
and the way these spores are, i dont want them ANYWHERE close to my cubes, cuz i have a feeling these will dominate
but just in case, how are you sayin to do it?

put some of those woodchips in a bag and store 'em. to travel with them, put 'em on ice in a cooler or ship it overnight in styrofoam. them when you get time, transplant some of the myc from your chips onto a plate and do isolations of the vigorous/uncontaminated myc onto new plates until you get pure strains of uncontaminated myc. then i don't know what you wanna do... cause i don't know what they are, however you seem to be good at fruiting them so i dunno you tell me!

lololol droughts in clay! love it. did you figure out what they are yet?
umm, i don't know about shelf life of mycelium in cool dark moist bag in the fridge. I would say like at least 8 months and prolly longer. i mean, in nature these things fruit seasonally but most of the time appear 'dormant' in the cool, moist, dark ground.
but, can't you print those fruits you're growing now. prolly way easier eh??????

did u look thru this yet? http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/8323500#8323500
thats the most info i got on them
oh yeah, they lay heavy spores, but the caps are slimy when they peak, so its hard to get a decent print.

ok lil update*
these are just two pics b4 i went to bed...
...set an alarm for 5 hours so i could take prints b4 it was too late.
that pic ^ is right b4 i made the cuts for prints.
set the caps on some foil. placed a glass over and set on my computer. woke up then this morning and had some nice charcoal prints. layed a piece of writing paper on the prints to absorb extra goo/moisture. put another piece of foil over. folded up edges. labled TX Coprinellus(if thats what they are)
anyway, they printed VERY heavy, and VERY easy...so if i get bored now i can grow this strain out...
since this was on woodchips, does it need to stay on woodchips, or could i make an LC with the spores and put it on some grain???

YAY, nice work mang! so all you did was case come woodchips and put in a humid chamber at room temp? and then you had monster fruits within a day? that's pretty sweet.
i was too busy playing with my gf last night so i didn't get a chance to look in my peterson book, but i can still try tonight.
you gotta find out what these are! cause i want to know if they are tasty. i know they are slimy, but i mean you could jsut wash them off maybe. they might be good for cream of mushroom soup if they are mushy rather than crisp

not the caps for sure, but the stems might make some decent soup
when ever you find out what you think they are lemme know.
i went down to the planter, and i lied theyre not flushed out, theres about 10 more that popped up last night

yea i was just gonna say, you know they will grow on woodchips, but you should try some other subs that you are more familiar with.
also i was thinking, since these things send up flushes within a day that die right away and are replaced,
if you have a yard or something with a garden, you could put in some nice mushroom patches since those things are so wicked lookin. and they woudl be easy to maintain, although you may have to pick out a lot of dead ones if you're not into the rotten compost look

i will look in Peterson's tonight.
without being able to see an actual specimen, it might be hard to id depending on what i can see (chicken mushroom would be tits simple, for example).
those doods claiming to be professional mycologists (i interpret this to mean they have phd in mycology) would probablly know better than I, but i'll give it a shot!

i have no idea if all spp. will take in LC, but give it a try. take a print and make syringes from it so you can fuck around with different shit. and if you don't wanna waste too much in a culture jar, just put in a bit of innoculant and see if youy get any growth (??)

hey d00d,
it definately looks like a Coprinus spp. Based on your pics and description, i would say C. atramentarius (alcohol inky), C. disseminatus (non-inky coprinus), C. radians (orange-mat coprinus).
These are all safe to eat, but with the alcohol inky you should refrain from drinking alcohol for 1-2 days after cause you can have an allergic reaction.
Corpinus grows across North Anerica on lawns on woody debris (like woodchips!).
If you want a positive species ID, you should run to the library and get a copy of petersons. or, i could scan and pdf the pertinent pages for you when i'm at work tomorrow.
Or, the best thing would to be to contact the biology building at your local university and see if you could bring some in for a positive ID. Most of these people would be more than happy to help you out and you'll probablly also make a new friend!
Anyhow, i wish i could be of more help!

"Micah Caps", as was said before. When they pop up they have a "dusty" residue that wears off or is easily wiped off. I get huge patches of these in the woods behind my house.
