Yeah but what is different about your tub and his? He lined it with a bag, and poored the substrait into it. You have your substrait in a seperate container which is sitting in the tub. The key word is mono. I am done argueing this shit.
Dude, I didn't say you have low RH. You asked me what I would call your tub with no perlite. I said I would call it an FC with low RH. WTF? No offense, but this arguement is pointless. I was just letting you know that you might confuse people by calling it a monotub when it isn't. That is why a few people said "That isn't a monotub". Terminology is very important here. Good luck with that casing.

In monstermitches tek the substrate produces the humidity. Monotubs never have layers of perlite.
If your fruiting chamber has 95-97 relative humidity then your fine. If you don't have any holes on the bottom of your fruiting chamber you will need to fan out the excess CO2.

with the shotgun method. you have holes in top bottom and sides which makes exchanges co2 and o2 all on its own. even still with this you need to fan and mist occasionally.
with a monotub, you have the substrate directly lining the bottom of the tub, as it is providing all the humidity, and the polyfil is exchanging the gases. so no need to open, no need to fan, no need to mist(some ppl still do tho)
so youve got a mixture of both. you could take your perlite out, but i doubt youd have enough surface area of sub/casing to make enough humidity to use it like a monotub(no fanning, no misting)
so a suggestion. get the perlite out. cuz its not really doing much for you. leave the casing in there. mist and fan daily...

what you have is a casing tray in a monotub shell...
if your casing tray had a top on it, it could be a monotub, and YOUR DESIGN IS INFACT A MONOTUB DESIGN, but you are not using it to monotub specs.
i dont know what kinda results youll get, but the suggestion above is the best one i can come up with...
best of luck with this, keep us informed!

So he might as well have just put the trays in a box.
If he's fanning and misting manually, than what purpose does his design serve?
Anyways, I don't see any reason he couldn't fruit if he was in fact keeping the humidity and FAE up to par with whatever methods are chosen.
And I second the perlite notion.
Is this your first grow?
Good luck!

Thanks, I understand what you guys are saying now. I wanted to try casing cakes before getting into bulk substrates. I thought the perlite would compensate for the lack of humidity due to the fact that I was using a small tray which I know wouldn't give me enough RH as opposed to what a tub filled with a substrate and casing would do. Makes sense to me now. I'll fan and mist and let you know in week or so how things turn out. My next attempt will be with grains and coir no perlite and then I'll have a monotub. Thanks again for the explanations.

yeah man, keep your monotub around for the next go. at least with your polyfill you have a little FAE and then plus the fanning and misting, you might have made yourself a bad ass little FC for your casings...
and correct, THEN youll have a monotub
is your perlite in water?
if it is, go get a bubble wand or two from the pet store(or walmart) and get an aquarium pump, and run some hose thru one of the holes with the polyfill still stuffed in, and that keep that water moving and itll wick a lot more moisture into the air surrounding your casing. that way you might be able to get by with just fanning and light misting...it MIGHT even eliminate the need for fanning and misting since you already have huge polyfill holes....only thing you gotta watch out for is that polyfill gettin saturated, bcuz then it becomes less of a contam barrier and more of a contam highway

That setup is my favorite. I didn't fruit any casings in it, but cakes love it.

Here is my tray 6 days later. The pins are not all over yet but I am pleased for my first casing. I have about 50 pins so far from the 6 cakes and hope most will grow out to maturity. I have given it a hand full of fannings and some misting but other than that I've let it do its thing. Any suggestions or thoughts on how to improve on this would be appreciated.

Justme, I took the other tray out after your suggestion and cased it with some mgmc and put it outside in the shade. I found 4 pins this morning in that one. Considering I completely neglected it until this morning I was happy just to see anything. Now I'm keeping that one moist and will see how things go.

Momma Nature is very good. Now the question is what kind of spores do you think she left you?
