Experience as a child

i was reading someone elses post on here about a lucid dream he had and it reminded me of an experience i had when i was about 6 or 7. me and my brother shared a bunkbed, and i slept on top. if i stood up my head wouldnt touch the ceiling, so id estimate about 4 feet from the matress to the ceiling. one night i remember VERY clearly waking in the dead of night to find myself inches away from the ceiling. i was still laying flat and probably a second or two after realizing what was going on i felt my body sink back down into the bed. i had the sensation of being like a feather swaying very gently as i fell. i couldnt have been dreaming because i had a steady stream of awareness from the time i opened my eyes until i was back down in the bed and sat up wondering what just happened. ive never really told anyone about this experience except my girlfriend, and maybe one or two other people. i dont think anyone ive told has ever given it any serious consideration. so has anyone else had similar experiences? id love to hear them, and maybe this phenomena is more common than previously thought.

Changing the subject: I had similar experiences. I could fall asleep as fast as I could hit the pillow and almost everynight i'd wake up choking because I'd forget to breathe AND had a horrible nightmare of MY FAMILY VANISHING and the walls talking to me. There was no faces ... just demonic voices coming from the walls

I used to get experiences like that all the time.
A classic one was the sensation of falling the hitting my body with such a jolt the bed actually shook as if I'd landed on it.
Often whilst going to sleep I would get this sensation of vibrating or bobbing backwards and forwards. I could see and feel it, it would always happen just before I actually drifted into sleep. Sometimes it was quite frightening and strange.
I've had hundreds of lucid dreams. They are not something I particularly aspire to. They just happen naturally, although they are fun. I used to BMX round a lucid bike park and design ramps as I went I often use them to fuck really hot chicks too
All this said, I've never had an OBE. I've had lucid OBE's but they were dreams not OBEs because things were different in reality to in the dream.

I've had so many experiences like that, thinking that I am awake and aware, weird things happening, floating, sinking... walking around and shit, but things don't add up in the end, and that's when I realize I was dreaming the whole time, no matter how vivid it is. And this will soemtimes happen over and over and over again in a night.
If it makes absolutely no sense, trust me, you were dreaming.
If it were 'real' you would know it. You're reaction would have been much different in the 'waking' world.

My uncle told me a story of how he got up to go to the toilet, saw his father come out and walk straight through him.
He used to try and induce OBE's through meditation. Some of the stories he tells are unbelievable.

Wow. Yes I've experienced this. However, I was about 23 years old. I was sleeping in my bed during the evening (5pm-ish). The TV was off.
After falling nearly asleep (I think?), I found myself in what is often referred to sleep paralysis. My eyes were wide open and I was awake, but I could not move, nor did I want to. I felt amazing.
Then, I felt like I was floating toward the TV. Suddenly, I realized what was happening. I was having an out-of-body experience. This scared me, and I instantly snapped back into my body and I immedeately felt like I woke up, though I was already awake. My consciousness was maintained the entire time, the moment I hit my body the lighting in the room was the same, my body position was the same as when I 're-entered' my body, so if it was a dream, it was the most realistic dream I've ever had.

im glad someone else isnt just attributing this to a lucid dream, ive had lucid dreams and this was NOT one. the only difference in my experience from yours was when i woke up i could move my head and look around, i distinctly remember that i turned and looked right off the side of my bed while i was coming down. i honestly dont know if i was "out of my body" though, i felt that i was still in my physical body, and there was no snap back into my body as you describe it. awesome though nonetheless...

Word. I've had a TON of lucid dreams. I just give myself a trigger, like say I see my dog in my sleep, this will trigger that I am dreaming, and I will make the conscious decision not to wake up.
Then I'll go fly around or something. Man, I remember learning to fly over the course of about three lucid dreams. It started off I was playing basketball and could jump higher and higher. One time I slam dunked. I realized I couldn't do that in real life, so I figured I was dreaming. Pretty soon I was flying around the gym, people watching on in amazement.
About the third time this happened, I left the gym and flew up as high as I could, and let myself drop. Terminal velocity, all the way to the Earth, where I just stopped immedeately, at will. It was exhilirating.

Yeah I'm almost positive what you and I had wasn't a lucid dream. It was too damned real. Haven't really looked in to what other phenomena might explain it, though. Glad to hear I'm not the only one, too!

ur flying experiences reminded me of a funny lucid I had when i was young (probably 10-12), i was being chased through the streets by a couple of these mobster types, and i remember coming to the realization that I was dreaming and i could do anything. so i stopped dead in my tracks, closed my eyes, and said to myself "i can fly", i bound up into the air, only to find myself not making it a foot off the ground and coming immediately back down to the ground, very dissappointing indeed....

Oh man, I gotta say that one kinda let me down! lol
I bet if you woulda kept trying, you would have flown eventually. Jumping higher and higher each time... until finally *whoosh!* you'd be flying so well it would be other-worldly.
btw I've seen Tool six times live. None of the shows as good as the 3 lateralus shows.

Did you see them at the Woodlands Pavillion in TX? When Maynard was sick and screwing up the vocals?
I wanted to cry. It felt like I was watching a swan song.
