it has rained on and off for the past week and i was golfing today and found a lbm that was different than the other ones that were scattered all over the place. i collected it and can;t seem to identify it.

it has a purple spore print
the cap is 1.5 cm in diameter
it is med brown
gills are darker brown
stem was white at one end and blended into dark brown at other end
it was 2mm in diameter and about 2.5 inches long
top of cap is darker than the rest
and it dried in a perfect bell shape
it smells like mushroom

any ideas?

no goo it looks nothing like an ink cap.
it has a little nipple in the center that is darker brown
the skin is kind of leathery looking
it almost looks exacly like an acorn when dry, size and everything

maybe a liberty cap??? Can you rap the stem around your finger without it breaking? Any blue bruising?

What part of the country? If in Florida theres a possibility of it being a Cubensis. Does the nipple look brown and then fade to white at the edges? If it is not growing on cow shit its probably not active and I wouldnt do anything from a golf course anyway-too many chemicals in that lawn.

well, we are a long way from being able to id this mushroom, but there is about a 50% chance that it is a liberty cap. keep in mind that there is a 50% chance that it is NOT.

definutly not a cubensis.

only one specimen?

kind of soil?

it was found in ohio so definately not a cubie.
the nipple is dark brown and the res is light brown, no white on the cap.
the stem dried and shriveled into nothing.
it was just growing around the tee box by itself in well fertilized soil, only one like it i saw on the course.
i doubt it is active, i would just like to id it.
also the cap was full of maggotts, eww!
