I love how earthy it feels. Very nice playing, and composing too. you truely have talent. I'm impressed. reminds me of Opeth's Damnation album
If you wrote more like this, and have someone sing over it lightly you would sell cd's

This is gonna be fun
A Shroomery music collaboration across the entire fucking Free nation
I just use my MacBook to record. The microphone is pretty outstanding for a computer mic, but it would be nice to get a few nice condenser mics.

'98 anniversary edition Epiphone acous/elec I miked it cause its sounds a lot better and warmer than the built in pickup and you get some air around it from the room. Could use new strings, sounds a little dead to me. Also I cut some of the mud around 330-380 Hz and added some crispies up top around 15K, some slight compression too... Maybe a few dB here and there at the peaks.
Thanks man.

I tried mic'ing my tabla, but the PA system I currently have is from the stone age. So, the quality is probably a little less than great. Perhaps I shouldn't have tried mic'ing them at all.

Now its got a bass line. I didn't mean to bury you in the mix... But, digital distortion is... bothersome.:( You should do it again but give yourself like 10 dB of headroom on the transients of the drums. (EDIT: maybe the drums are fine and only my track is clipping?? IDK) Do you have access to the raw tracks?? Just drums??
That was fuckin rad by the way. Some timing issues in places but pretty solid. I want those raw tracks. Or tracks with no distortion. There wasn't a peak on that waveform that was intact. If you were driving an analog summing bus the story would be a little different. Digital growl is like plastic growl, ya know?? Give yourself space/headroom so that shit can breath. Would you do it again?? Don't mean to be a stickler. Its just that that was recorded at 96K/24bit and to have the tops chopped is... ouch.
I feel like I sound like a pric.

Here's the version with the bass line if you want to jam it out again. I wish you will.

I do have access to the raw tracks. I'll certainly do it over as soon as I get a chance this weekend. I think I'll try to record it without mic'ing the drums and see how that sounds. Do you have any idea what BPM you're playing at, if you used a metronome to record? There were definitely some timing issues, but I should be able to easily fix that with a metronome. I know very little about recording so far, but I'll most definitely get on that the next free time I have, man.

You should post the raw tracks...!! Just drums, cause I think they might sound alright. Its thats low hit I'm worried about. I'd say even if you post them, definitely do it again. Jam out as loud as you think you'll play and set your level, try not to get anywhere near red(0dB). Give youself 3-6-10 dB when you set your level... Then turn it down some more. Things might have been alright going in and overdriven at mixdown?? I think the tone of the instruments sounds great and the sense of space... Its just that you were way to hot going in and at mixdown or however it was summed into a stereo track. You want to record things as loud as possible, but you can always turn things up in the mix. Eventually you bring everything up to 0 dB(as loud as possible) with the use of compression and limiting. Its better to have a track that is naturally quiet than a track where the preamp was set so loud that every peak extends well past zero(into the red). 10dB is roughly twice as loud. If you set your level at -10dB you give yourself 'space'/'room' for things to get twice as loud, ya know?? Then you can squeeze it with compression and turn it up until red then back it off a little at mixdown. Anyhow... Can you post the raw drum tracks?? I want to play with them. Just raw...?? As for the BPM. I just kind of jammed it out. It naturally speeds up in some places. The heavier parts get a little faster. But, I feel if you get in the groove you could nail the changes and it would sound much more 'live' then if it was all on a grid. Ya?? I say there was a nice feel going in places for sure... Rock it out until you nail it. SET YOUR LEVEL MANG -10dB or just use like 3/4 of the available headroom on whatever meter your using going in. (Make sure if you have a master fader that it is clear of the red too) What are you using by the way... What software?? Good times for sure. I've been listening to it over and over. Raw tracks??:)

Hey Mr. dirtworshipper...?! So I thought this was a good opportunity to explain what I was talkin about a little. I really don't know how much you know about recording... One of the real arts of the craft, imo, is getting things to sound loud while preserving some of the natural dynamics of the performance. Making it sound good and loud in the digital domain is a task. I took some screen shots if you're interested, to help understand about setting a better record level.
This is birdswbass and your The Birds
This is the break in the middle of the song
A closer view of the break
And a super close view of the two waveforms CLIPPING
You want nice round peaks that get as close to zero (0dB/as loud as possible) as you can without 'clipping'.
It is possible that this occurred at mixdown and only on the master bus. Perhaps the raw tracks are in good shape??
Might you have those raw tracks?? Perhaps I should PM you.
In any case... I would like to mix birdswbass and the raw drums tracks, then post that version.
Where you at??
