Cubensis Plant Hardiness Zone (Climate)
    #8418607 - 05/18/08 11:21 PM (15 years, 10 months ago)

Which plant hardiness zone (climate zone number) will psilocybe cubensis grow in? im wondering about 5? The climate zone is the temp. region for that area. Im asking if i plant a cubensis patch outdoors in zone 5 will it be able to fruit or not. Zone 5 goes through the middle west and lower michigan to about rhode island. THe link is a picture of the map. Shroomery only tells about which woodlovers grow in which zones, not cubensis; surprisingly.

LOL "Mushrooms don't read books" I think is a quote from the hunting forum.

Cruel answer.

Allow me to purely speculate-

I live on the edge of 5-6, and I am placing a bet of 2 brf cakes in a tiny little plot that they'll do well right about...tomorrow or so.

Not too hot, not too cold (60º-80º here at the moment) and nice amounts of rain.

Personally, I'm just experimenting with a couple because I made 24 jars and only expected 18 or so to make it (didn't think a first timer would be so successful)

I heard outdoor fruits can be really neat, picture perfect specimens.

If you're looking for wild cubensis, forget it in your zone. In the US, they're mosty south of I-20/30, and east of I-40. That would be the south-east US.

If you're looking to start an outdoor bed for the summer, they'll do fine all the way to the arctic. Many folks have posted pictures of outdoor grows in Alaska and Northern Europe. They just won't survive the winter, so you'll have to start a new bed next year.
