Million Dollar Baby (Euthanasia Dilemma)

Just watched Clint Eastwood's academy award-winning movie. It is not really a boxing movie as much as it is a father/daughter love story. Both characters are emotionally damaged, but fulfill a need in the other.
Maggie, the main character, a boxer, gets spinal damage and is paralyzed for life. She begs Frank (Clint), her manager and trainer who took her to the top, to take her life. A church-going Catholic, he stresses out big time and finally capitulates by disconnecting her from life support out of compassion.
What do you think if it was for real - moral or immoral? Would you do it?
I won't tell you that I cried like a baby at the end as that would ruin my rep as a hard ass.

If people want to die they should be able to. But asking someone to do it for you is so selfish.

Especially when you're quadraplegic or paralyzed for life. Hold your breath and die with honor !

Yeah I always cry when things get real. I would surely do it if I wouldn't go to prison for it. I might do it anyway under unusual circumstances but would off myself if confronted with prison for it.

if someone wishes to die, they should be given a tank of nitrous with a mask. Pure nitrous, not the kind mixed with oxygen. They get breathe, get higher and higher and higher until they go unconscious and while they are unconscious they will continue breathing the nitrous and then BAM, they die.

Helium even works better. Helium has an advantage of no brain damage if the person is revived. Also helium is easy to find legally.

As long as the person I was talking to was in a mentally stable, coherent state of mind and I would suffer not legal damages, I definitely would.

WINNAR! I lol'd.
Seriously though, this is a huge topic in medical ethics. Kervorkian avoids this problem by merely setting up the machinery and letting the patient who wishes to die hit a button that starts the machine. It is not Kervorkian inserting needles or providing the machine that actually does the killing, then. It is the patient's pushing of the button, exercising free will, that kills.
However, in this specific case the actor (father) is free from responsibility, legally, due to the patient's informed consent.
On the other hand, I fear it is nearly impossible to justify this act through Christian values. Nowhere in the bible is mercy killing condoned. So if the father is ready to flesh it out with god in the afterlife, then that is his own faith, guilt, consciosness and god that he must deal with.
